Anyone else avoiding seeing the movie "Frozen" before they go to WDW?

No, we didn't wait. I don't see any reason to think that waiting would make something better.

It sounds like the kids the OP is taking are preschool. If the kids ,not the OP, don't see the movie they won't have any idea that Frozen exists so therefor they won't want to see the characters.

I usually don't write negative comments but this seems a little...mean? As the mom of an almost five year old...Frozen was a wonderfully movie for her. We are surprising her with a trip for her fifth birthday. Although we do have a FP for Anna and Elsa...that is only part of the exciting things we have planned.

I think that your granddaughters would enjoy the movie...it is all about sisters!

You set the bar for the trip, souvenirs, activities, etc. They have no baseline. The trip will be wonderful and I think that seeing the movie will make it even better.

I would surprise them and watch it the night before you go.

If you haven't reached your FP window, maybe you would even get them a FP. I did not have any problem.

Frozen is a fun movie. The niece and nephew watched it all summer. I don't know why anyone would hold back on a Disney movie before their trip to Disney. Maybe I just don't understand what you mean.

BTW I'm watching Toy Story right now in preparation for my trip starting the 23rd.

Yes, but this might also work in reverse--- sort of--- let say they are old enough to like the movie-- (our 3-yr old son loves it!! )

The sing-along is much more fun if you do know some of the songs--- the times that we went, the entire theatre seemed to know all of the words, and it was so much fun--!! Also, I am sure that our 8-yr old (she loves the movie as well-- but like the PP, really doesn't care that much for waiting to see A and E) would be very curious about the characters (especially Olaf) if she had not yet seen the movie-- also, it made the parade and fireworks very special having known the storyline- I don't think I would stop them from seeing a movie ahead of time because of character greetings and/or buying souvenirs --- but that's just my .02

Wow, can always count on the Dis to be judge mental. Calling the OP "Selfish" and "Mean" because they are trying to avoid having a huge portion of a day at Disney sucks up on a meet and greet line. GTFOH! I'm avoiding my kid seeing it because I don't want to deal with the headache of having to get paper FPs when he'd rather be riding TSMM at RD. in the past few weeks my son has watched Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland and Little Mermaid for the first time. So, no I am not depriving him of seeing the most grossly overrated movie in the history of Disney.

It is just a movie. The only ride that my daughter knows that exists is the Mine Train bc of all of the commercials. I booked my FP for Anna/Elsa when I booked my other and had no problem. If the OP did not get one for whatever reason then it sounds like the kids are young enough to not even know that there is a meet and greet. Little kids cannot even read. I don't mean to be too harsh, I just can't imagine being told that I couldn't show a fantastic movie to my child. For us, it has been and experience. Little girls love it.

The OP could always fake a note to the girls from Anna and Elsa and leave them a Frozen surprise.

For us, I got an Elsa gift card from the Disney Store and personalized tnte message from Elsa herself. Again...little kids are just learning to read but I thought it would be special. She has $100 to spend on the trip and bug whatever she wants. It was a good way to establish a limit.

Again, the children have no baseline and the park is larger than life. I don't think that a frozen meet and greet should hinder watching the movie. If you don't get the FP, then do something else. Buy a Frozen cupcake. They would love it. Seriously.

Buzz...I saw where you posted earlier that the wait times were relatively short. Like 75 min or something w/o a FP. So that would not take up the whole day anyways.

I would watch the movie and get the girls excited for the trip. I hear the songs are playing everywhere anyways.

"Frozen" has a very positive message of the power of sisterly love. After seeing the movie, I called my sister just to say I Love You Sis! (But, no, I wouldn't wait in a 2-hr Meet-n-Greet line :lmao:)

They asked for opinions so we gave ours. I'm not being judgmental at all actually. That is how I feel in response to what was asked of me. In fact, it doesn't matter to me either way what someone does with their own child, but, if you ask for opinions... then you will get them (that's how I am, I don't sugar coat, im speaking the truth). I personally would be very irritated if my parent asked me not to show a movie to my daughter because she didn't want to bother with the possibility that my daughter might get excited about something and want to do it.

I just don't want to become one of those people obsessed with getting a FP+ to see Anna and Elsa (and usually disappointed, it seems) so I don't want to see the movie until AFTER we go to WDW. And although we don't have young children ourselves, our DGDs are going with us, and I called and begged their parents not to take them to see it beforehand. Otherwise, I'm afraid they'd just be getting set up for disappointment. Fortunately, the girls are preschool age and they're more into Disney Junior. Also, by seeing the movie beforehand, we'd probably be buying every "Frozen" souvenir we saw. And no doubt that's a lot! Maybe I'm jaded, but I just feel that all this hype for movie-related stuff has turned me off to the movie. Anyone else?

Um no. I wouldn't dream of telling my daughter not to show my DGS a movie. He loved Frozen, and frequently sings while playing with his Olaf. Contrary to the OP, we thought this movie was one of the best they've done in years. Yes there is a lot of Frozen mania. Because it has resonated with people.

You are the grown ups. You set the rules and the boundaries regarding attractions and souvenirs. If FPs aren't possible and the wait times exceed your limits, then tell them so and move on. Same thing with souvenirs - it is quite possible to tell a child he cant have every souvenir on the shelf without the entire day being ruined. Its all in the delivery. But don't attempt to deprive them of a movie that they may enjoy very much, just so you can avoid something you have no particular interest in.

Frankly if I tried to do what you suggest, my daughter would tell me to blow it out my ear. And rightly so.

well we saw the movie long before things were crazy at WDW (opening weekend in the theater, went on to see it twice more before it came out on DVD/blu-ray) so we didn't have the option. It's really a great movie and soundtrack.

I 100% agree

I think it is funny how one simple movie can create such emotional responses. It is obviously a popular movie. My daughter loves it. I thought it sent a decent message. I think calling it the "most grossly overrated movie in the history of Disney" is quite a stretch, even as an opinion.

In terms of the OP's dilemma, I personally don't think it is too much to worry about. Whether the children see the movie of not, doesn't the parents or in this case, the grandparents, have enough fortitude to set limits on their children?

I see it more and more these days where parents are so afraid to disappoint their kids, they are afraid to just tell them no once in a while. Kids are pretty resilient and I guarantee you that in 6 months or a year, this Frozen issue will be a distant memory and they will be on to the next great thing.

I have a feeling many posters can't wait for your trip to come and go.

You are a little big for your britches on this board for someone that just logged in for the first time a month ago.

I am no Disney expert and love reading these boards nightly in preparation from my trip but frankly my dear, I don't give a buzz what you have to say.

I don't get this A&E craziness where we as adults have to plan and overthink our vacation planning due to two college age woman playing dress up.

Anyways... let's be adult about this..

OP in your position, I would have them see the movie.. It's a great movie, but I would also maybe in preparation, getting excited for the trip thing, watch the other Disney princess movies.... Do a Disney Marathon weekend.

I would start with the classics, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, Fantasia, then move on the the princesses. Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Ariel... Beauty and the Beast and some where in there, then Frozen.

IMO, throwing Frozen in that bunch would only make A&E a small part of the big picture of what WDW offers. Also IMO, putting Frozen side to side with the older classics downplays that movie..

Also, IMO, Little Mermiad, Cinderella is a different league than Frozen, but tht is indivudual taste.. I know my DD (8)gets more excited anything Arielle compared to A&E.

LOL. Too big for my britches??? It's a freaking message board! Sorry if I haven't logged in enough time here to be considered valuable to you, and I get bored with the constant barrage of "Everything Disney does is bad" threads.

I just watched it a couple of weeks ago precisely so I could be up on what all this stuff is when my wife and my two boys, 14 & 12, and I visit in a couple of months.

That said, I can definitely see wanting to avoid a super-long M&G line. Those are my least favorite things to do in all of WDW, and I am glad that my boys are essentially too old for them now because that's more time I can be on rides now. But I didn't deny them the lines when they were little.

We can't stop watching it. This is a great Disney movie with great songs. It is part of the magic. We are not stressed about getting to see everything Frozen but it is so much fun to know the movie when you go.

I understand your feelings for not wanting to disappoint your grandkids but I think you should let them watch it. Do what a previous poster said and let then watch it among other Disney movies. My granddaughter is 2 will be a month short of 3 when we go and she knows most of the songs but she knows a lot of songs from other movies. (She is a Disney baby). I don't know when you are going I am on my phone so if you have a ticker I can't see it, but if you can't get a FP or don't want to waste one on a meet and greet then don't tell them they are their. If you are going before Sept. 1st and they have seen the movie then you can do some of the stuff at DHS or it is possible Disney might extend it past that date. Lastly they are in the festival of fantasy parade and your granddaughters will be able to see them there. Just some things to think about in case you change your mind and they watch it. My granddaughter likes the movie, knows who they are, but they aren't in her top 5 Disney characters, probably not even top 10. We only got a FP because of my 16 year old daughter.

The sing-along is much more fun if you do know some of the songs

I cannot imagine that the experience of a room full of people yell-singing a bunch of movie songs gets any better if you already know the songs. There is a reason the people who sing in the movie get the big bucks. The only thing that could possibly improve the sing-along experience for me would be tequila shots.

Fortunately my daughter pegged Frozen for what it was on the first viewing, and there has been no desire to revisit anything about the movie since then.

I dont know--- maybe its me --- but thats part of the fun-- the fact that most of the ppl cant sing !!! :)

I guess I dont take these things too seriously- Its Disney, and life is too short anyway.
