Ugh, furnace quit working, DH needed to get down to the basement to look at it so I had to clean up a pile of stuff in the laundry room so he could get down there. Hadn't touched the pile in months. After I got it cleaned up my nose started running, my chest got tight, I'm wheezing, hacking, coughing, ugh. :crazy2: Never even thought to wear a mask (like I usually do if I have to clean something in a dusty area). *cough, cough, hack, wheeze, hack*

Yes, I'm severely allergic and I haven't seen my basement in a year or so. DH has to do dusting and vacuming for me too. It's probably mold spores with dust that made you react so much.

Go outside for a bit to get some fresh air, it will help.

I just had the air duct cleaned last weekend. They cleaned the entire system. After the dust was removed in the house, it smells a lot better with less coughing. We used a good company and it cost me about$335. If you decide to get this done, don't use a cut rate place that tell you they will do your whole house for $55.95 but invest some money . With 20 supplies and return it took about 2 hours. Everyone sleeps better plus the dyson helps to. :cheer2:

Can there be mold if you don't SEE any mold? I mean, it was just a large pile of clothes (stuff we don't wear that I just piled up, rather than taking to Goodwill) and I didn't see any mold. 'Course I didn't SEE any dust either but I'm sure it was there since the pile has been there for months. :guilty:

I guess I'm not quite as allergic to dust as you are, as I can still do the vacuuming and dusting and not be bothered at all. DH would HATE having to do that kind of stuff for me! I took a picture of him vacuuming once, because I can count on one hand the number of times he's done it!! ;)

Yes, if there any items that were wet and dried or if the basement is damp to begin with (like mine) then mold spores can grow. If you see dark green and black dots on anything, that's it. Not good to breathe in. Throw those things away.

The sweetpea is allergic to dust. Gives her reason to not clean or vacumn. But, I understand. When she gets to much dust in her, she gets a reaction and feels icky.
