I have been off and on this site for a couple of years now although I don't know many of you .Just wondering if any other Mom's are out there with "plus size "daughters. I am venting a bit I guess today. I just found out that my daughters favorite store is discontinuing their plus size girl department. The Limited Too stores.
It is so hard to find stylish clothing for girls who don't fit into Slim or Reg sizes. It is so disappointing to me that they would do this. I hate to tell her. That is where we have bought 90% of her clothes the last two yrs. The email I recieved from them after expressing my opinion stated that they didn't have room in the stores for their "in between" (their version of Plus) sizes. Which is to me a crock because for the two yrs we have bought from them they never carried them in stores near us. I always ordered online.
Anyway just hoping that someone would jump on this cause with me and maybe do the writing in thing to see if they would change their decision to discontinue this line.
Thanks for your help or just you ear...
Sharon

Do you have Fashion Bug in your area? I've been a Plus-size girl for many years and Fashion Bug has always been my favorite store. They seem to be one of the few stores that sell nice, fashionable clothes in plus-sizes. Others seem to think that the larger you are, the less fashion-conscious you are. Big girls don't need tent-like dresses with polka-dots. Also, just because I may have a big waist, that doesn't mean I have big ankles! Fashion Bug sells jeans called LA Blues that are made to fit you right. I hate when you try on jeans and the bottoms of the legs are ten times the size they should be.

Kohls also has a small, but decent plus-size department.

We have a fashion bug. But to my knowledge they don't sell girl sizes just jrs and womens. She is just 11yrs old, Jr clothes are too long on her and a little too mature. I know JC pennys also sells Plus sizes for girls as well as Sears but they, as you stated seem to be sort of bland clothing. The rule seems to be with plus sizes that you don't have to look cute or in style just be glad we make something for you. I hate that. I too was a plus child and hated the clothing then. That is why the clothes at Limited too were so great. They were the clothes that they sold in slim and reg. sizes. Clothes with style and some sense of fashion. They weren't too mature for a kid either.
thanks for your reply

Boy, can I relate!

All 3 of my kids are hard to fit! DD is needs a slim if that even fits, and both of my boys were in the husky sizes (one now is in the regular sizes) with the younger one I try to shop in the stores with free alterations.

I will be sending them an e-mail for you!!

I feel your pain. DD is finally tall enough that we can find clothes in juniors and adult departments. It's still sometimes hard to find things appropriate to her age, but girls sizes make her look like she is going to a flood.

Sorry your favorite store is doing this. Seems like plus-sized folks are second class in our society. I know I tend to feel that way sometimes. Lots of stores seem to think if you wear larger sizes you prefer polyester. What is with that?

Boy can I relate! I was a plus sized child until I hit 13 and discovered BOYS!! Then I was a size 10 until I got married and had my son....now I'm plus sized again. The only place I will shop in my town is Cato's. Now if we go to Memphis I will go to Layne Bryant IF they have a sell.

I agree that Penenys and Sears and even McRaes are AWFUL! They want you to look 80 when your 30!

I think The Limited may be having financial problems - the one here in Georgetown just closed down, its been around forever and a day. And in another mall I frequent I was so surprised to see that one gone as well.

I'm sorry I don't have much to offer you in the way of where to shop for your daughter. I thought I recalled Old Navy having a plus size for children, but I could be wrong. My kids are easy fits, thank goodness. I know it must be difficult for you to find appropriate age things that fit her.

Hopefully someone else has had some experience with this. Good luck to you!

I have been pooh plus all my life and I know how hard it is to find clothes. I think Lane Bryant was the first and only store I was able to find fashionable clothing for myself that didn't make me feel really old. I think companies need to realise that not everyone is slim and that we are not all 6 ft tall. Im 5'2' and I have to spend money constantly to have my pants altered. So on top of the already pricey clothing I end up with 4-8 $ in alteration fees. I feel for you and one of these days retailers will get it and find out that it will be financially in the PLUS to add Pooh sizes to there racks.

My son was plus sized and the only things available to him were Sears and Penneys :( There seem to be so many more options now.

I found a few links for you, I haven't shopped with any of them, though.

The Wellington Shops

Have you tried Avenue?

I'm not certain if they have childrens clothing, or not but its worth a shot.

(I think Avenue is an offshoot of another clothing store, but the name escapes me now.... )

My daughter is 6 and very wide through the middle, so she needs the plus size pants. The Gap and Lands End both have some great stuff. It is hard to find the plus stuff on sale at the Gap, but they usually have several styles of pants and jeans that are available in both slim and plus!
I never knew the limited too had the plus sizes, itoo will write to them!

I was so happy when I found Limited Too carried plus sizes for girls. My DD wanted to dress like the other kids did , in style and with somewhat of a choice of colors other than tan, navy blue black and terrible floral patterns. With all the studies done about overweight kids in this county why can't they dress better? from what all the studies show there are more overweight kids than underweight kids and you can find slim sizes everywhere.

Ave. Limited, Limited Too , Lane Bryant are all part of the same parent company.
Thanks Native for the links but they were geared more towards older girls, Jrs sizes.
Seems on the internet girl can mean alot of different ages I have found out.

Maybe Goodies will have a larger selection this summer, they just started carrying a few plus sizes last fall.... I can always hope!
or maybe my DD will grow 5 to 6 inches before she needs summer clothes.

I know from experience it is NOT easy. Right now I'm very plus sized and 4'9" - try finding clothes that fit me that AREN'T slutty or sleezy looking.

My dd is also a plus sized girl at 13 and I end up finding clothes for her at WalMart and, yes, at Penney's. What I have ended up doing is going into the Women's sizes and just having her try things on. The Juniors stuff to me is not something that I want her wearing - too risque if you ask me for that age level. I guess I'm too old fashioned. I have also found that once in a while she will find something in the juniors section in the highest size they have that will fit fine - might need a little altering but I'm use to that so I do it.
