I'm considering driving, since it would probably be cheaper than airfare for 4 adults and a toddler....

I was wondering if anyone here had done that and if so, would you recommend it?

48 hours of driving time according to google maps between Van & LBV. Not including stops for gas, meals or sleeping.

According to Fuel Cost Calculator below, a 2006 Dodge Caravan will consume from Seattle to Orlando and back to Seattle. Calculator only works between US cities.

Start City: WA, Seattle
End City: FL, Orlando

One-Way Trip: 3108 Miles
182.82 Gallons Used
$377.86 Fuel Cost

Round-Trip: 6216 Miles
365.64 Gallons Used
$755.72 Fuel Cost

You also need to factor in $$$ motels and meals along the way.

My dad had always dreamed of doing it, but its such a long drive. Just imagine all you could see though...

Seems like a long way to drive, unless you are planning to make it a longer trip and visit other sites along the way.

Would be an interesting trip. Take a week to drive down. Two weeks at WDW and come back via a different route.
Don't think it would be cheaper than driving though.

Oh wow, maybe its not any cheaper!
I didn't realize it'd be so long, so the food/stops/hotel would add up quick
Might have to rethink this, lol. If we can find some CHEAP airline tickets then I guess flying is best.
Does anyone know if its cheaper to book your own flight, or let Disney take care of it?

Cheapest way may be see what discount airlines fly out of SeaTac(SEA) to Orlando(MCO). Airtran and Southwest offer service from SEA to MCO.

Flying seems to be the quickest and most cost effective way to head to WDW.

The 48 hour drive from the lower mainland should have some folks in southern Ontario look at their moaning about the 22 hour drive we have.

My DH and I drove from BC to WDW. But we made the drive part of the trip. took 6 days to do it and stopped and did things on the way there -Graceland, country music hall of fame, saw mt rushmore, went into the black hills (cowboy stuff), chattanooga choo-choo). It was fun, then we spent a week there, and took a week to come home along a different route and saw more stuff - roswell (alien stuff), san antonio (the alamo), grand canyon, airplane graveyard (very interesting).

If you just want to get to WDW, watch for cheap flights out of Seattle. Just remember to include the cost of parking your vehicle in Seattle, when you compare flights from Vancouver.

I have driven to Disneyland a half dozen times but never to Disney World and I live in Coquitlam BC.

Last year I booked in May on American Airlines for our September trip and it was $240.00 USD each return out of Seattle, our exchange was better last year so it cost under $275.00 CDN each.

This year I booked last month on American Airlines for our trip this September and paid $240.00 USD ($99.00 each way plus taxes) each return out of Seattle, with the exchange $308.00 CDN each.

You need to factor in parking if fly out of Seatac but if you go to one of the hotels near the airport it is around $50.00 USD a week.

To me it isn't worth trying to be crammed into a car with five people for the amount of time that it would take.

Keep us posted I am curious to see if you do drive.

Hmm, I don't think we will be driving anymore, lol, sounds like it will be cheaper to fly after all!
Dod you book straight through AA or through a different agent/site? I haven't been able to find anything that cheap yet for our prospective Sept trip.

Hello,

As your little one is under three he can fly for free if you have him in your lap. We did this with our son a number of times before he turned three and only once did he spend the whole flight on our laps as on flights a few seats are empty and the airline staff asked people to move so the three of us could sit together even though we only paid for two seats (we never asked them to do this, and this happened on Alaska, Air Canada, Delta & American airlines)

I was looking on www.aa.com and once I found the flights I booked through www.expedia.com so that I would get AIRMILES (log onto airmiles then use their links to expedia).

We are leaving Seattle at 11:00 am on Thursday September 24 and returning at 1:50 pm on Monday October 12. Keep playing around with dates and times for your flights and try each of the airlines sites, I know that Continental Airlines & American Airlines both still have flights at $99.00 USD each way before tax for flights in September as i was looking this morning to see if I could get a couple more seats for some friends who might be joining us in Florida.

Keep looking and I am sure that you will find a good deal.
