anyone drive from St. Louis? need hotel stop suggestions....

Hey everyone! We'll be taking our 3rd family trip in Oct. We always drive but have only stopped for the first trip, and that wasn't until midnight (made it to Tifton, GA). This drive down will be different because we won't be getting on the road until noon. DH will not drive overnight so we'll probably stop at 7/8 for the night. I'm thinking that would put us right outside of Atlanta? Any suggestions on where to stay? We have Starwood and Hilton points so it would be nice to use those and not pay oop. Thanks!!!

We drive thru St Louis on our way (We are another hour 1/2 away). How long you wanting to be in the car? We usually try to make it past Atlanta for sure so we don't have to deal with the traffic there the next morning.

Yea, I was thinking the exact same thing! What city is right outside of Atlanta??

I'll have to look at home and see which places we have stayed for sure...I know off the top of my head that we have stayed in Macon GA (which we hated, the area felt totally unsafe), Cartersville GA which is about 45 minutes north of Atlanta and Valdosta GA which is about 3 hours 15 mins south of Atlanta. I remember pulling off one time late at night in a suburb south of Atlanta and stopping, just can't remember the town.

ETA: I forgot we also have stayed in Manchester TN twice. It's about 3 hours north of Atlanta. We've stayed there on the way back from Disney. Nice, clean little town with several options to eat right along the road. If you stopped there early evening, maybe you could get up early enough to miss the morning traffic in ATL?

7 or 8 hours probably won't get you much further than Chattanooga especially since a noon start will put you in Nashville rush hour (not to mention the construction at 24/65 in Nashville right now).

I think Macon or Valdosta would be a good stopping point.
