So, are any of you DIS people doing National Novel Writing Month this year? I was just looking through the forums (This will be my 3rd year attempting it, although I'm yet to actually finish!), and in the thread where people suggest things to include in your novel, someone suggested:

- Have someone say "I'm not cancelling the trip to Disney World because of the bed bugs! It's too important!" while being completely serious.

I can only guess that person was a DIS person! ;)

So, anyone here doing it?
(nanowrimo.org for more info!)

Never heard of it. I looked it up for my 10yodd who wants to be a writer but she has to have her teacher sign up, I think...:confused3
Too bad.

I am! My idea for the novel I want to do is going to be based partly on a real trip to WDW I took with my family w hen I was 16, before I graduated HS. It was one of the most bizarre road trips I've ever been on and it makes National Lampoon's Vacation look tame by comparison. :rotfl2:

I am! I heard about it too late last year, but I'm ready for this year. (Already started my outline!) I've written a lot, but never finished anything, so we'll see how this goes. I've done 1700 words a day before - but never 30 days in a row!

Count me in too! I failed miserably last year because I didn't have an outline and got discouraged trying to figure out where to go with my story.

I'm procrastinating terribly getting my outline together this year though and only have the vaguest notion of where I want to go.

Good Luck!!

Oh yay, I'm glad there are other people here doing it, too!

I'm doing a fantasy genre novel this year, made up in large by things from the dares thread. I thought it would be fun to do a silly one this time!

My name on NaNo is Kalikala, for those of you there!

I'll be looking for you then Poly Princess. :thumbsup2 I tend to hang out in the General Ideas Cafe board (I think that's what it's called) or in the Humor/Satire forum. :)

This looks very interesting. I reserved the book from the library so I will take a look. November is notoriously a bad month as I have to get cracking at making my wheel thrown pottery to sell at holiday craft fairs. Wish they would be doing this in Jan or Feb after all the holidays are over with & people are looking for things to do.

My username is katerkat there, too. I'm writing a sci-fi, part from dares as well. :)

Ok I signed up for fun. I don't expect to hit 50,000 words but I have a character in my head I would like to get out on paper.

So how do you do this?

Do you type in Word (which is what I will use) and then submit it to them?
How do you count words electronically, because by hand doesn't sound fun.;)

Microsoft Word has a word count feature, under tools somewhere. :)

I did it last year and won! I want sooo badly to do it this year again, but even though I'm in college I'm still living at home so my mom is "forbidding" me to do it. I should do it anyways, but the last day is the most crucial (I wrote the last 4,000 words on that one day last year) and I'll be on a Disney Cruise then. I was i12bajedi last year, if you care to read my novel excerpt. It was a sci-fi/fantasy. This year I had planned to do another of the same genre, but unless I move out I can't. :( Oh, well. There's next year I suppose. I still want to cry because I love it so much.

She is forbidding you because?

If she's worried about how much time it will take up during the cruise, maybe you have to make your "last day" the day before the cruise. Or try to get in a higher word count every day before the cruise, so you can write in shorter stints during the cruise.

Think of different ways to change up that rule you've made up that the "last day" is the most important. It doesn't have to be that way. You've already proven you can do it & win. make it part of the challenge to do it differently this time. :thumbsup2

She won't let me do it because of school and work. But I'm only doing two first-year college courses; sure they're tough but they're not THAT tough, and I only work part-time. But I kind of agonized over my novel last year; panicking when I was 10,000 words behind and all that, and she doesn't want me to put her through that again. :lmao: Plus I didn't have time to wash dishes and do laundry all day long; and since nobody else will stoop to doing it, it piled up and piled up until nobody had any clean laundry. Maybe if I promise to only write for 3 hours a day? :confused3
