I really want to do the Segway tour. However, DH doesn't have a desire to, and since I'm kind of klutzy, I'm afraid of doing it solo, because I'd have no one there to encourage me, just a bunch of strangers. Has anyone here ever done the Segway tour as a solo? How was it?

When are you thinking of doing it?
Im thinking of doing it solo in Nov

I did it solo kinda.....had a friend go but once up ,you are all spread out and not with your friends or family anyway so don't sweat it...just remember one thing....You need pretty good balance to do the Segway....i worked on mine for about 4 months luckily and was able to do it but I'm not sure I could have had I not....it was a blast....standing still is the difficult part if you can get past that you have it made!

I did it solo in October. I really enjoyed it and was able to ride it even though I am not very co-ordinated. It took me a little while to get used to it but it was a lot of fun!

Go for it...you'll have a blast...it's our family's favorite tour. :thumbsup2

I've done the tour twice and I'm overweight and uncoordinated. If I can do it anyone can. I love it. Like a previous poster said, everyone is spread out enough so you won't mine being solo. Plus you'll meet some fun people.

The first time I did the Segway, I did it on a solo trip. It was a blast. The CM who teach you and take you out ro ride around WS are super. They were constantly offering to take my picture when ever we stopped. DO IT. The Segway tour is the best tour in WDW.

I'm the world's biggest klutz (really!) and I've done it on a solo trip. The CMs were great and the group I was in was fun. It's one of my fondest memories from that trip. Go for it. You won't regret it!

I did it solo May '05 and then did it with my ex Sept '06. It was alot of fun both times and both times each tour had at least one other solo. Not that it matters because once you go out into World Showcase everyone must ride single file anyway (until you get some free time in Italy). Go for it!

There are plenty of solo riders every day ... don't feel odd signing up, you'll have a blast.

They have cancelled the segway tour as you all knew it. I tried to sign up for this on our last trip in Jan. The "tour" is now called the "Segway Experience" or something similarly lame...and consists of you getting to ride around on a Segway for 45 minutes inside a Disney warehouse somewhere, indoors.

It's no longer an outdoor tour of Epcot like it used to be...we were really bummed about it too as everyone on the DIS gave it such great reviews.

:sad1:

You mean there's no such thing as the 2 hour Segway tour where you ride around outside:scared1: OMG and I was so looking forward to it.

Yes, exactly, so were we. Instead you get to ride around in an indoor warehouse for 30 minutes and experience what it's like to ride a Segway...laaaame. The customer service rep at WDW I spoke with explained it to me and kind of said the same thing (but in a nice Disney kind of way! LOL).

We were really looking forward to cruising all over Epcot on them too...doing the original tour.

Perhaps it's a liability issue, or who knows, maybe someone got hurt or drove a $5k Segway into the lake or something! LOL

There are two Segway tours. There is the 2 hour Around the World tour, which takes you into World Showcase once you learn how to ride. The other is the 45 minute Segway experience. The Around the World tour is still coming up on the Disney web site. Also, Deb's site has nothing listed about it being discontinued. I'll have to call tomorrow. I'm interested in doing this again in 2 weeks.

We were there last week and my son called for pricing, availability, ect. 1 hour experience for $35, takes place inside with safety instruction, handling and a short play time. 2 hour tour for $85 gets you the 1 hour lesson, plus a riding tour, which they indicated would be around FutureWorld. Times were 8, 8:30 and 9. I would think they would keep new riders away from any crowds, so it must be in places that are not traveled much. The 1 hour experience was full and he didn't have enough $ to take the 2 hour, although he would have loved too. You can play on a segway at the Segway experience in Innovations westside after going through a little intro class. There are multiple restrictions on age, size and weight. He got hooked there and had the biggest smile on his face just riding 20 feet. He'll save for next time, I'm sure. Brinbaum's has a 10% off coupon in the back of the 2007 book. Saves a few pennies.Hope this helps.

I am one of those odd people that actually owns and uses daily a Segway to get from home to work and back. It is a solitary experience, especially as you are learning. Hard to walk and talk kind of thing. This is a perfect activity to do alone. As an experienced rider, it just drove me crazy to only be on the black key (the training key) which restricts the device to half speed and a turning speed that is really really slow. If I could only bring my machine from home...

Do it. It is a unique way to see the park.

No they haven't. You are thinking about the cheaper tour. I just booked the longer Segway tour yesterday and was told by the agent that it still takes you around future world.

I signed my DH up for it. When we got to the meeting place, I asked them what time I should come back to meet him at. They offered to me to stay & watch. So I stayed & took lots of photos of everyone in the class. Just 4 men. And we emailed the photos to the other men. Worked out nicely for everyone. And I got to learn about the segway without actually having to get on one. I was glad I stayed to share the experience with DH.

The class was held in a building in Future World. Then they went outside to a fenced off garden area where people walking by could see them and ask questions from the second instructor. I can't remember, but I believe the entire class was 1 hr. Maybe about 35-45 minutes inside & the remainder outside. It was the highlight of our trip. DH still talks about it 2 yrs later.

As for balance, one of the men in the class used a cane to walk & had a noticeable limp. He was able to ride the Segway, but did have a little bit of trouble keeping it steady. But he was able to do it!

In January, we saw people zipping around the worldshowcase, so I plan to buy the class for my DH when we go for free dining!! Glad to hear going solo is not unusual!!

I also did it solo my 1st time. It is awesome. but pay the extra and do the 2 hour one, it is ssooo worth it!!
