Anyone cruise over Labor Day last year?

I'm curious as to whether or not the ship was full, especially in the kids' clubs. Originally I thought it would be sold out quickly because of it being a long weekend but now I'm starting to wonder. The only thing I can think of is that it's the beginning of the school year for many children and parents don't want to take their children out of school at that time.

Also, how was the weather? I'm expecting hot and humid weather. I know it's typically hurricane season and was wondering about how rough the seas were and/or if they didn't do the Castaway Cay stop.

The last question is pretty general. Are the sodas free in the dining room? My brother just came back from the Wonder and said that he wouldn't have bought the refillable mug if he knew he could get free sodas in the dining rooms at dinner. I didn't think sodas anywhere were free.

Thanks for your help!

I have not sailed over Labor Day weekend, but my assumption would be that the ship would be pretty full.

Regarding the weather, hot and humid would be a safe bet. September is in the middle of hurricane season, but that won't necessarily impact the seas or the weather you'll encounter during your trip. We sail in the fall all of the time and have even been re-routed due to storms, but we haven't encountered higher seas during this time of year than any other. That's really kind of a crapshoot. The ship will avoid any really severe weather.

Regarding Castaway Cay, again, this is a case-by-case basis, and the chances of missing it are pretty slim overall, and not necessarily any worse due to hurricane season. In 5 hurricane season cruises, we have never missed this call.

Regarding soda, yes, they are free in the dining rooms, but not at the snack bars on deck 9, or (I believe) at the buffet. The mug is only a good deal if you will be purchasing an average of 3 sodas a day (based on $1.75 a soda, which is a guess-timate), above what you'd drink in the dining rooms.

We were on the Wonder over Labor Day last year and the weather was definitely hot (mid 90's) and very humid. Fortunately, we didn't run into any hurricane type weather and the seas were very calm. However...... that could have changed in a hurry.

The ship was quite full, but I don't think it was sold out because they were doing cabin upgrades at checkin. At the end-of-cruise kids show, they announced that there were just over 700 kids onboard from over 30 countries. That sounds like a lot, but it never seemed crowded, except in the Mickey pool (mob scene!!).

Thanks for the replies! I noticed a lot of good cabins left so it peaked my curiousity. Also I have done a roll call twice with no replies at all. I guess there will be a lot of people just no DIS'ers. :(

Thanks Lloyd for clearing up the mug question. I don't think we'll get the refillable mug. My husband only drinks sodas with supper and I'm a big water (and a big frozen daquari) drinker! ;)

Sadly, they have not yet implemented a frozen daiquiri mug program......

2001 and 2002 and both cruises were pretty full. Usually get a grea price for that week as well.

hurricanes, smooth seas - Weather was hot but bearable - except Key West was brutal!!!

But not too brutal to keep me from going back again on the 8/28/04 Magic - LOL
