I’m going down to stay with the in-laws across the border for the Holidays. This is the first time we are not boarding our Alaskan Malamute before we leave. I researched it and I think I’m fine with just his rabbies vaccine certificate, but a bit worried because I’ve never done this before.

Does anyone have experience crossing with their fur baby. Do you usually need to get out and go to secondary? Ware NEXUS and plan to use the whirlpool bridge.

I've crossed several times with my dog. I always just had the printout of his vaccinations being up to date. Don't bring cans of dog food. They made me throw mine out (I think they had lamb in them or something lol).

Is kibble ok?

If you bring your kibblue make sure it is unopened. It still may be compensated. My mom crossed from the US and back in July with no issue (had her vax ertificate for her dog and letter from vet saying ok to travel.)

We cross a lot with the dog. Have ever only been asked for papers once. They just need to have had their rabies shots. We've never been asked about food.

I would have the complete records of up to date shots and an up to date license. Sometimes they look and sometimes they don’t. Remember that if you get into the USA with out complete information you still need to get back into Canada. You will. The pet might not. We have never had a problem in maybe 50 crossings with cats and a dog. But we always have the required papers.
