Today I bought dd8 a pair of Sonoma (Kohl's brand) mary jane type shoes. They don't have cushioning around the heal like her Stride Rites, but she wears size 2 and it is getting hard to find Stride Rites in her size. Is this an OK brand? They label on it says they test all their shoes to make sure they are good for kids.

It depends what you are looking for. If I recall Sonoma doesn't make leather shoes. That is my own thing. I refuse to buy school shoes that are plastic. It doesn't give and then their feet hurt (ans smell!). For shoes that they will wear occassionally or character stuff I once in a while will cave but I try not to.
I too am a stride rite fan but believe it or not Target usually has leather shoes for the kids and they hold up pretty well. Also, if you have a Kmart by you they sell Thom McCann shoes. They are all leather and I know they are a good brand. You can also check online at Zappos and Shoebuy. They have free shipping and if they don't fit you can send them back for free. I have bought from them and have been very happy. Also, check Stride Rite online. The stores don't carry everything.
Good luck!

(shoes are my thing!)

I have bought them but only church shoes that will be worn for a short time. i don't think I would for everyday shoes. Now the sandels I have, they don't last long but kids out grow them so soon anyways.

The ones I bought are leather. I think I will try to get her to wear them around the house first and see what she thinks.
