Anyone booked National over Thanksgiving?

If so, did you get a decent rate? I tried today, and EA was around $575 for 10 days! Avis was less than half of that. My dh said maybe National doesn't have rates out yet? Any ideas?

I got a great rate with National's Emerald Reserve...Nov. 19 - 25 for a Full size for a total of $109 with taxes and fees included.

$575 just doesn't sound right to me...maybe try plugging everything in again.

My rental at National is from November 25 (day after T-Day) through December 2. I booked ASAP, back in January. I got 8 days EA for $170. and now it's well over $400 for my days!

I'm SO glad I booked ASAP.

How are you getting a full size with Emerald Reserve? I thought they were all intermediate. When I try to choose Full Size from the Emerald Reserve page, it tells me I can't do it.

Emerald Reserve means all sized EXCEPT intermediate. If you book an intermediate size, then your service/aisle will be Emerald Aisle.

So booking Intermediate = Emerald Aisle
Booking any other size = Emerald Reserve

Both services allow you to bypass the counter.

Yep, a great benefit of Emearld Club is that you can use coupons (unlike Quick Rent, you cannot) but you cannot use UPGRADE coupons. It will automatically bump you to the counter. Same with renting a car seat.

Yes. I often use coupons with Emerald Reserve service.

If you are an Emerald Club member using a coupon, you can still bypass the counter with Emerald Reserve service - just like you can with Emerald aisle service. The only exception is if you are using an "upgrade" coupon - those require you to stop at the counter as they are dependent on availability.

I've found that you'll get the best rate by using the $20 Entertainment passbook coupon along with the Contract ID 6600330.

Btw...where is says Emerald Aisle, click on the little x and it'll let you choose Emerald Reserve instead. When you click on Emerald Reserve it'll allow you to choose the Full-size vehicle.

We booked our National rental on 2-24-05. We have the car from Nov. 19 -28th and the total for our rental is $145.87.

We used the Happenings coupon and the other code mentioned in an earlier post. Keep Trying you will find something!!!!

We're planning on 12/3 - 12/10 this year. Hope that $184 comes down. Seems high based on what prices have been. Looks like our airfare will be more this year, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised if the car rentals are more, too.

Might have to give Magical Express a try since we don't need a car. I just want one, LOL.

We're going during Christmas. Are the holidays generally a lot more than regular times?

I booked my National Car reservations a few weeks ago. I started at $225. and am now down to $209. for 7 days (12/20 - 12/27) for EA intermediate.

We've never rented a car during Christmas. What price range should I expect to get?

Just reserved EA full size for a week (11/18-11/25) using priceless and entertainment coupons, and got $110.22.

FYI...Contract Codes make a BIG difference. Normally the Priceless code is the best deal for me and that is what I booked with when I book my Nov/Dec trip back in January BUT when I check with that code now, its $423.30 but just now I plugged in the Carlson contract code #5760339 and got a total of $213 for 8 days. Still higher then I've paid in the past (and higher then I booked in January) but better then the Priceless code.

So my point is for those of you getting really high quotes, try different contract codes.

After trying many different combinations of codes, the best I could do today was $618. I have no idea why, but I got a full size from Avis for $174 + tax. They have a skip the line feature too, so I think that is my best bet.

We did like the EA very much, so maybe I will keep trying if I have time.

Good point - I missed that yo were arriving Thanksgiving weekend. We arrived the Friday after Thanksgiving last year and had the same problem. Hope yours comes down, but if not, at least you have one you can live with.
