I always use Alamo but with the crazy high rates I really think that I am going to have to use another company. I tried the Budget deal with Southwest (right on their homepage) and I can't believe how much cheaper it is. It seems almost too good to be true. For Oct. 22 - 31 in a compact, it is only $205 with taxes. Does anyone know if there is somehow some hidden charges or issues with using them? I really appreciate any help :goodvibes

The prices seem in line for me when I check with our dates - I can get better rates through Entertainment right now. Just one warning I'll give with Budget is that they charge a daily fee even for a spouse to drive (around $10/day) which is a huge extra cost for a week or so. If you only plan on having one driver, then it's not an issue obviously.

I have the Entertainment book too... What type of code/discount are you using to get close to $200? The cheapest one seems to be a free day + 20% off which is still over $400.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I just checked for my dates in January (which I already had booked), to see if the Southwest pricing seemed off. I found they were reasonable, but I was still getting a cheaper rate using the Entertainment book codes (I just go through entertainment.com, click on the different agencies, and apply any relevant codes). The free weekend day (plus the original ent. discount) was cheaper (by about $25) than using the SW link through Budget. Of course October may be a whole different ballgame!

Thanks for clarifying. I thought that I was missing something great with the Entertainment book. :)

Thank you so much for the tip on rental savings on Southwest!!! We have been checking rentalcars.com for weeks now for our trip from Oct 23-Nov 4th, and we weren't seeing anything cheaper than $669 total. We just checked Southwest after reading your post and got a rate of $268 including taxes and fees!

You've helped us save $400! Thank you!!!!!!!!!

Just thought that I would update that the deal seems to be over. The same time-frame today is well over $400- more than doubled!
