Anyone been to the hot springs around Orlando?

Do you mean Wekiwa Springs? Not geothermal but definitely beautiful. The only “warm” springs I know of in Florida are down near Venice.

So...the springs aren't "hot." In fact, they're the opposite of it, and one of the best and most refreshing ways to spend a Florida summer. The saying here is that tourists go to the beach, but locals go to the springs.

There are a ton in the Orlando area to choose from. Pick one and head there, you can't go wrong. Now, on busy days they do fill up rather quickly, but don't worry! There's another just down the road. If the one you're going to is at capacity, you'll be able to get to another one really easy.

Also, all the ones I've been at have free air for your floaties (which you will want because the water is cold and deep), so don't worry about lugging an air compressor with you.

When are you going? We've done Blue Springs State Park during winter, and it is full of manatee in the crystal clear water, but no swimming or floating allowed. Around March the manatee move out to the St Johns River and floating in the constant warm waters is allowed. So the experience is very different depending on when you go.

We recommend the 2-hour St Johns river cruise as well. The interpreter was very informative and fun and the wildlife was incredible. There seemed to be a bigger and bigger croc waiting around each bend in the river.

Yes, they are a beautiful and a great local recreational activity! They are however NOT "hot" springs, the water is actually natural spring water and it comes out crystal clear and ice COLD from the source, as mentioned by pp it is a great way to cool down in the hot summer as long as you have a high tolerance for cold water! The nearest natural spring to Orlando and WDW is Wekiwa Springs State Park which is located in Apopka, FL, a suburb north of Orlando.

You southerners have some strange idea of what cold water is. 72F is like bathwater up here in Canada. :duck:
