Hi everyone!

We are planning next years holiday, and are thinking of maybe a week split between Memphis and New Orleans, and then a week in Disney, Orlando (yes, I know a weeks not long enough . . . !!).

I really need to ask this on the US forum, but can't think where to ask it - so for anyone who has been a) did you enjoy Memphis and New Orleans, and b) can you drive between them and / or Florida easily enough (maybe 6 hours or less?), or would we need to get some internal flights?

Cheers!:goodvibes

i have been to both.
we did new orleans, memphis, nashville, texas, oklahoma, atlanta, then flew to florida, for a week,at the beach.
i really can't think,of what order,we done it though.i know we landed at new orleans, but not sure, where we went next.
we stayed 3 nights in new orleans,so had 2 full days there.we visited the french quarter & went on the steamboat, down the mississippi.bourbon st,is a must do,at night.you can't go to new orleans & not visit bourbon st.
memphis, was the only place,we left early from.once we had done graceland, sun studios & beale st,at night, there wasn't alot left to do.it is quite an industrial city.i wouldn't go back!
someone has also asked about memphis,on the dibb & the general feeling is,a couple of days,is more than enough.you could probably do it,in a day,in all honesty.
a week would be too long, for me,in just the 2 places.i would be wanting to add a 3rd,maybe nashville.
i can only give you my opinion,other people,may say the 2 places,is plenty to do,in a week.
we really enjoyed, both places, but seen what we wanted too,in a couple of nights,in each place.
tracy

I have not been to either places so cant comment but have driven to florida from Nashville, TN and that was an 11 hour drive we stopped for a night in georgia as far as I know memphis is another 1 and a half hours on to that so 12 and a half hours my guess is that memphis to new orleans would not be much over a 6 hour drive....

Hmm, you're not the first person to say that about Memphis . . . may have to re-think it. What about South Carolina - anyone been there? It looks beautiful, and I'm sure I've seen a report somewhere before where someone drove from there to Florida?

I have stayed in South Carolina and what I seen was lovely but I was in an rv park as we where doing a drive down and up the east side of the states I have heard the beaches are beautiful there too

I live in Memphis and unless you are a big Elvis fan and just want to see Graceland, I say skip Memphis altogether. You can get the blues music vibe in New Orleans and it is so much prettier there with more to do. If you do decide to visit Memphis then go to New Orleans, it is a 6 hour drive via Interstate 55/59 through Mississippi.
Driving New Orleans to WDW takes about 10-11 hours, not counting stops for food or gas.

I would skip Memphis, unless you really want to see Graceland, and spend more time in New Orleans. There is so much to do there. If you decide on going to SC, Charleston is a great place to visit. Many people go to Myrtle Beach too. Have you considered going to Savannah, GA? That would be a great place to visit also.
