We are going to the Gaylord Production of ICE in Nashville. I was wondering about carrying my camera inside since it is so cold in there.

Heres a link if you havent heard about it:

Any tips?

Every year we say we are going and we never seem to make it. Maybe this year will be THE year. ;)

9 degrees (F) got my attention! Most consumer cameras are not rated for such temperatures. Keep your camera inside your coat and only take it out for a quick shot (or buy a pro camera).

I took pictures, no problem.

CPM, what type camera was you using? I will be using a Canon 40D do you think it will be ok in there?

That must mean Minnesotan's can't take any pictures from late Dec. until March!

P.S. I'm a native Minnesotan and still have family and business there as well as travel there once a month so I can say these things. Seriously though, for a short amount of time I'd be surprised if there were any problem b/c we'd never see pictures of kids playing in the snow (at least in MN) etc. if it weren't. :confused3 At 9 degrees the camera would probably outlast the photographer in a visit to see the exhibit.

I have read that you should consider placing your camera into a plastic bag when going from a cold climate to a warm climate. This will stop any condensation from occuring. And you should also give it a couple of hours to reacclimate to the warmer environment before taking it out of the bag.

Those pictures look great! I may have to see if we can make it over there during our trip. I'd be using my Sony A700 for the pictures.

How about bringing in a throw away camera? If we go, that's what I will probably do.

I used my Olympus E-500. I've used my cameras in other cold climates. Even Alaska when it was pretty darn cold. Never had a problem.
I really never knew you weren't supposed to use it in the cold.

It really was worth seeing. It's hard to believe it's all made from ice.
We made a day of it. The GP is decorated nicely for the holidays. They had little singing programs all day and we did the Ghome hunt. We had a nice Italian buffet dinner at one of thier restaurants too.
