I just got home from 3 different stores looking for a costume for myself, and oh my goodness! Either there's little to no variety for adult women (either "naughty" grownup princesses, pirates, or fairies, and a few firefighters, policewomen, ladybugs, and bees thrown in there), or the quality is terrible!

Most of them use really thin, polyester type fabric that make you feel practically nude underneath, and then they're priced at $40 and up! Eep! I htink I'm making my costume this year. Anyone else?

Yeah, I'm going to dress up for work and a naughty costume isn't really appropriate. :lmao: I'm thinking of making myself a poodle skirt and going as a 50's girl.

check out disneystore.com they have some on sale - still pricey but the quality is nice

i had the same problem costume shopping for my 12 yo DD. everything in her size (small teen) was so short, it made her look like a hooker. the adult female costumes were the same way. i got DD a 50's costume with shirt and poodle skirt for $20.00 at wal-mart. it was the only thing i could find that was appropriate for her age.

We just put together DD's costumes ourselves, since the selection and quality of the ready-made ones is so bad for any girls over the cute princess-y costume age. DD is 11, and very petite, so just about any costumes we could find that fit her are too little-girlish. And the costumes labeled for 'tweens are, IMO, just kind of trampy looking. Mostly very short, tight, and way too sexy for her age group.

DD decided to dress as Madonna, circa 1984 (from the Lucky Star video, to be precise). We pulled together lots of pieces from what she already owns- black leggings, tank, black jacket, etc- and bought things like lots of black jelly bracelets, a big belt, a black mini, fingerless lace gloves, lots of necklaces, and big dangly star earrings. We are going to really "80's up" her hair, and tie it with a lace headband.
