Anyone able to upgrade Canadian Park Hoppers to Park hopper plus option later?

When we were originally planning our trip I didn't add the park hopper plus option since we were supposed to be going to Universal as well. However, given the current state of Volcano Bay and the fact that I don't think visiting the Harry Potter lands is worth an extra $250 for one day, I've now decided we are going to go to Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach for two days out of our trip.

So I was just wondering if anyone had any luck upgrading their park hoppers to the plus option while at the parks. I called Disney and they said I may be able to, but they weren't 100% sure.

My take would be, you are walking up to a guest services window and offering to pay more money. To Disney. If that EVER gets turned down, it will be a first.

Yes, you can upgrade regular hoppers to plus by paying the extra cost of the option.

So would I then have to pay the difference between the park hopper plus regular cost and the Canadian discounted cost? Because that would be over $200 USD for two people which to me wouldn't be worth it. Or is more like I just pay the regular price to add on the plus addition which would be like $30 a pop and way more reasonable.

Canadian tickets cannot be bridged so any saving would be instantly lost by upgrading at full price. So it's $200 and not $30.

Which is the opposite of how I understand it to now work. But I haven't upgraded a ticket in many years. Used to be that you had to use a ticket first, and then the price was "locked in" for upgrade, otherwise you would pay the difference in overall ticket values (the higher price). But IIRC about 2-3 years ago they started selling the upgrades as a specific cost item. So if upgrading is $30, then it is $30. Anyone done this recently with the discounted Canadian tickets who can confirm?

Don't mean disrespect @MoreTravels but would like to hear from someone who has actually done it with the Canadian ticket offer, there is a lot of mixed information about the costs of upgrades. My point was simply that Disney will always let you upgrade. Well actually only up to 14 days after first use; I can no longer upgrade my old NE tickets for example.

You were right until last year. When Disney introduced the special Candian price last September, they also tightened the upgrade rule. From many trip reports posted here, people are now asked to pay the price difference between full cost and discounted amount. It used to be more advantageous to buy minimum number of days in reward tickets then pay a small upgrade fee. With the rule change, it's better to buy extra days as insurance even if you do not think you will need it.

Who knows? Maybe Disney will loosen their rules again in the future.

Using a ticket once and locking in it value has been gone for a very long time. Until this most recent price increase when they added an expiry date to the DisneyWORLD tickets as well as a "buy at gate premium" you were in fact able to easily able to "bridge" the price difference. You would be given what the current gate price of the ticket you had in your hand and pay the extra amount to upgrade to the ticket you wanted. You could possibly realize quite the savings if you had purchased your tickets at a much earlier time or had obtained the tickets thru a site like Airmiles. Once they started adding the expiration dates there will no longer be much doubt to when the tickets were bought and then the price is easy to determine. With the CDN discounted tickets there is absolutely no question as to what was paid for the tickets -- since they were only ever sold at a set amount no question here.

The confusion about the cost of upgrading tickets has been because this is a new situation at the ticket booths -- the training required to bring every person who works at a ticket counter of any sort was confusing to them! There have been numerous reports on both of the lengthy threads related to the discounted tickets, as well as on the Airmiles Alert thread, that confirm that yes, you will only be given the exact price you paid for the tickets (or the dollar value if they were received from Airmiles) if you choose to upgrade them, meaning you will lose any discount you previously received.

Good to know, thank you. Glad I bought more park days than I need for our upcoming trip. And we still have a ton of extras left on our old NE tickets for all the side trips. It is tough to stay up on all the rule changes. Having been Disney regulars for about 10 years now, I've lost count of the number of times the playing field gets tilted.

Thanks for the info everyone. Good news is I just got my summer bonus today and looks like we will now be going to Universal and Disney as planned since it was double what I expected it to be. I think we might still go to Typhoon Lagoon since it looks pretty awesome for a waterpark, but I doubt we'll be going to Blizzard Beach (snow themed waterparks don't excite me) so oh well. It'll add an extra $200CAD or so to our budget, but we'll be staying at Cabana Bay instead of Royal Pacific, so it will all equal out in the end.
