trust me the majority of people from Iowa and nothing like that at all. And all the farmers i know are normal people.

I usually dont watch that show, but i was sucked in with the raw meat. OMG total weird. The mom was very nice and tried everything when she went to the big city. The biggest thing that shocked me was the kids not going to school...they werent home schooled either unless i missed it. I felt very bad for those kids.

I have many Iowan friends, and NEVER met anyone like that family. They seemed very nice, but I personally think a few screws were missing somewhere. I got the feeling that the parents were extremely controlling of the kids in order to get 'free' labor on the farm. I do think the kids are missing out on a whole lot of education and social interactions that they will need as they are older. The mother is absolutely OBSESSED with food and the 'end of the world' paranoia, yet she seems like such a good hearted person.

No, their lifestyle choices wouldn't be mine, but to each his own as long as each is individually informed/taught to MAKE their own choices. That is what I felt was lacking. But again, with media coverage - who knows what all went on or was said. It could be distorted dramatically as so much of our media is today. Hence, I will withhold judgment (i hope).

I was thinking the whole time I was watching it "Hello" you people are weird and gross. I hate to be like that but where in the world can you not make your kids go to school. My son missed a couple of days in sept to go to disney and they had truant officers on me. They should call the child protective services on those people. I was grossed out through the whole show. Raw meat. Give me a break! The kids are infulenced by their parents so they only do what they have been taught. And kids are raised to trust their parents. I honestly felt bad for the kids.

My favorite part - the teenager gets really angry and goes into the kitchen and downs a raw egg. Dad: "The egg will help him calm down". Yeah, 'cause that's what we all drink our of a pilsner glass to relax... a raw egg.

That Family needs true help!!! I wonder if the local authorities will do something now that it has been aired on tv about how they live.
You would think that some Social Worker w/social services in Iowa was sitting home and watching this on tv. And decides to go investigate

I do consider what they are doing to the children abuse. If these kids ever want a life away from a farm the will be totally ill-prepared. They have no formal education at all. Being able to count the eggs a chicken lays is not math enough to survive in this world. How will he ever figure the interest on his car or mortagage? Or his change at a grocery store?

That house is a germ infested rat hole. There are all natural products that can be used to clean. As they are into all natural it should not be to difficult for them to find.

This episode really upset me because of the children. I know as parents we all raise our children according to our beliefs, thats fine, but these are safety/illegal(they must be violating child work laws) issues to me.

I hope someone from the state steps in to help these children.

I wasn't a vegetarian before that show, but I caught the very beginning and I couldn't bare to watch it. It was disgusting...I haven't touched meat today as a result.

It wouldn't have been that bad, but they showed the father chomping away at some raw cow dish and immediately showed a live COW!!! GROSS...

Abuse? what abuse???
They raised and killed their own chickens so they new it would be safe,
They don't home school they Unschool, the mother is proud that she doesn't have any formal education,
Cooked food does make you sick after all, the girl proved that when she ate it and got sick the next day.
By cleaning your home you are only going to make yourself sick...I thought everyone knew that.
And I am sure that butter and clay makes a wonderful toothpaste...didn't you see the teeth of the mother. You can't get that funky black outline from regular floride toothpaste.
