I was buying my 1 day Universal ticket for my son and I trip in December and at checkout they offered Hotel and Car Rental bookings at good deals. Well my hotel is booked so I went in and got a estimate for the car rental. For the car rental they were a good 200 dollars cheaper than Costco travel car rental that I booked. You pay for it (car rental ) upfront but it says free cancellation. It was through Budget Car Rental that I used in my last rental. Anybody booked a car rental from there and any problems that popped up using them? Thanks everyone.

Since you mention purchasing a Universal ticket, it might be that you are using the website that sometimes goes as UT on this board. I described my experience booking and later canceling a prepaid car rental reservation there. Long story short, no problem at all.

I have no idea which booking site you are asking about, but there is a general potential problem with all 3rd party travel sites.

Any change in your booking is potentially subject to TWO sets of policies. A site might tell you "free cancellation," but if that is not also the policy of the rental car company for 3rd party bookings, they could simply say, "No."

For that reason, I usually look for fares, rental car prices, etc on the 3rd party sites, but BOOK directly with the company.

I have no idea what site you're talking about but the above poster is correct in that you need to look at policies for both the rental company and the 3rd party.

Most rental companies allow you to cancel, if you pay in full ahead of time that may change things but when I worked at a rental car company we would have people cancel their reservation an hour after their reservation time and we didn't charge them or anything for it.

Just cover your bases and read the fine print. I'd assume you would cancel more than a day or two out so I doubt there would be a problem regardless.
