We currently have Verizon, but the outside wiring doesn't work when there's a lot of rain, or when squirrels chew up the lines. They want to upgrade us to their fiberoptic lines, but we'd prefer not to. We already use Cablevision for tv and online, so it'd just be another 20+ to add the phone, where Verizon is almost 50/month. We're not convinced to switch, though, due to the frequency of cable outages during a storm. Does the phone go down if the cable tv goes out? How is the service? Should we stick with Verizon?

I have Cablevision for my phone and internet. Had the cable as well, but honestly the cable with all their crappy refurbished boxes was a nightmare. Anyway, I had the Cablevision for 4 or 5 years, and I don't remember the phone ever going out except of course for "Sandy", and I believe that when the cable did go out the phone was fine, because our house alarm goes off when the phone power is not working, and I don't remember that happening ever. So I would recommend the phone service, the internet service is lightning fast compared to any other provider and that I will never switch.

I also have cable vision phone service. It is fine and agree with pp. only went out during sandy. I would suggest that you negotiate with them. I added phone service and it qualified me for the triple play pricing for a year and we save some $$.
