Anybody take their 3 yr old on Matterhorn?

I took my son on matterhorn, the runaway train, space mountain, tot... well all the big rides he was tall enough to go on, and he LOVED  all of them and went over and over again! I can't wait till next time we go he should be big enough for indy and *fingers crossed* for screaming....

That being said, i think all kids are diffrent and i'm sure you know your child and know if he would like them! Like my oldest son (the one that went on the rides) loves them all, where as my younger son will be 3 (same age other son was) and tall enough next time we go, and i might be able to get him on them once but i'm sure i won't again as he Doesn't not like rides... It just depends on the child and there personality!

We took the kids to the local fair this past week and i was joking with my mom i should just leave my younger son home and not take him to DL he doesn't like rides or charecters!!! I just hope within the year something will change casue thats the 2 things DL is all about lol :rotfl:

I took my DS on it when he was 3yo. He loved it until the Yeti roared. Then he startled and cowered so badly afterward I felt like the world's worst mother. :guilty:

But as soon as we got off, he asked if we could go on it again. I waited a bit, but in the meantime chatted with him about the scary "abominable snowman" and that DS should growl right back at him. Finally I caved to the begging and we went on it again.

Now he startles a bit at the first growl, but is fine after that. (He's 4yo.) He loves to go on that ride, though I'm not sure why. :rotfl:

He also loves the Haunted Mansion (but not the intro), and begged and begged to go on ToT once he was tall enough. But doesn't want to go on ToT again. He really freaked out when the elevator dropped! He played it cool when we walked off, with folks asking him if he liked it ("Oh yeah, it's weally cool!" :cool2: ) but then whispered to me, "Mama, I don' want to go on dat wide again!" :scared1:

I've heard it does change greatly from trip to trip, kid to kid, and also by the kids' ages.

My older son, at age 6, was afraid of the characters. The younger one, then 2yo, loved them to death! On our 2nd trip at ages 7 and 3, the boys enjoyed meeting all the characters. By the 3rd trip, the older boy (still 7yo) did not want to meet the characters, and the younger one still enjoyed it but loved going on rides more, so it was less about characters and more about thrills on our last trip. (I still love meeting the characters, though, so it makes me a little sad.) :sad1:

My DD3 LOVES matterhorn, but her favorite ride since she could sit up has been the Zephyr so I don't know if she is a good representative for all 3 yr olds!
I wasn't worried about the ride scaring her as much as the Yeti thing. We prepped her by saying there is a funny monster from Monsters, inc who tries to scare us, but we always laugh because we know how nice he is in the movie (yellow sno cones anyone?). She laughs everytime she sees it!

wow i fill bad that i didnt let my son go on tot im just scared how hed handel it..of course he wants to go on the big roller coster but im not even going on that lol

That is a great way to prep your kidlet for the ride! Love it!

I would leave it up to your son. Height requirements or not, every child is different and if he doesnt want to go or is scared, he won't like it. When my DD was 3 she was still scared of Snow White's ride!!! She was tall enough for Matterhorn, but did not want to ride it. I didn't push the issue. Obviously for her that would've been too much. So gauge his reaction on the other less intense rides, if he seems to do great, do tiny baby steps up...like Gadgets Go Coaster!

I would NOT do Splash Mountain, IMO that one is worse than Matterhorn and Thunder Mountain combined!!! That drop is scary even to me, to a child it must be horrifying!

My 5 year old at the time loved Matterhorn and Thunder Mountain, and although he was tall enough for Space Mountain, I didnt let him go on it b/c I think it is too scary for little kids. I also didn't take either of them on HM, but they are scared at night anyways. Dont want to add to it!!!!

I guess we are just going to have to wait and see what he does... I am not going to make him ride anything - but I am going to try and get him on some rides that he has not been on before... I love the story about the Yeti from Monsters Inc.! I am going to tell him that when we are in line!! :rotfl:

We just got back and our 2 1/2 year old went on the matterhorn twice, he liked it he rode once with dh and once with. he is still short for splash and space but for those rides I will wait until he's 5 or so, due to the fast turns on space and the big hill on splash.

On matterhorn we just tell the kids it is the bumble and he is asking what flavor of ie cream we want...

My kids love soarin. Esp the 3.5 year old. she also likes big thunder. i just wrap my hands over hers. i told her it was a fast train and that we had to look for the turtles.

Star wars and sm is next! Whoo HOO!! we hit the 40 inch mark!

I took my two year old on the Matterhorn, and she LOVED it. She's a real princess, but also a bit of a thrill seeker when it comes to rides!
