Hi has anybody stayed in the newly refurbed rooms?
Im still hoping i havent made the wrong decision about staying at SSR as the kids love POP but SSR was coming up thanks to the info from Wayne at a really good deal with free DDP!

I know the refurbed rooms was ment to have a more Disney feel?
If anybody has any info or pics id love to hear or see:)
I think due to whats been going on lately with the Operation situation its leaving me with time to panick and obsess over details like the boys not liking SSR now i know they will love the pools!! but i know they loved the lobby etc at POP and AKL along with the over Disney feel........So how have your children liked SSR compared to other resorts I mean we prob wont be in our room that much and i wasnt as worried before but now that the Op is so near to the trip plans might change and more pool resort hours put into the mix:sad1:So im just trying to make sure they will enjoy their resort time if needs be.

Anyways Thanks

I'm probably going to be of no help whatsoever as we haven't stayed anywhere else before so have no where to compare it to but so far we have found it great. Were not in ther newly refurbed rooms unfortunately.
The resort is lovely but from what I have heard and read from other people, I don't think this resort is too Disneyfied iykwim.
The lobby is nice but I would guess not as geared up to be as 'featured' as the other resorts?

Again I don't want to comment too much as I have nothing to compare to but we think it's lovely but we did choose this place for the peacefulness :)

Hope you have a fab time :thumbsup2

Thanks how are you finding the size of the place?

It's a fair big size really. Whereabouts are you staying in SSR? We are in the 'Springs' part of the resort (4114) which is ideal for us as it is close to the main pool, bus stop, and restaurant. It's also the last pick up at the stop which we find useful as your not stuck collecting all round the resort on your way to the parks (but you are last to drop off mind).
There's a small community hall with wii consoles (i think??) and footy tables etc and pending how old your kiddies are they toast marshmallows on a little fire round the back :)

It's nice and pituresque and very quiet although still plenty of kids round the pool etc.

Im proberly going to ask for the area nearest to DTD as i LOVE going there and normally we stay at a Disney hotel thats no where near it:rotfl2: and hubby hates doing the parks all day and then the long bus ride down so think we will make the most of being nearer, plus our 3 boys really enjoy Disney quest! so it means we can shop and my mum will take the boys to that :)

We proberly wont spend much time in the games room etc but def be around the pool and roast marsh mellows and watch movies!! still really worried about the size and theming.....If only AOA would come out at the same price with the dining....oh well i know we will love the space of a 2 bed so ill just have to wait and see! :)

If the boys like disney quest I think grandstand would suit you as wellyou can walk from There to that side of Disney quest! It's a lovely walk over the golf course it's also near the boat stop has a great pool and and pool bar ;) . But congress park is our favorite area too which is the area closest to down town misery market place x

I agree with that. Make sure to ask for the 2 buildings nearest the pool, we've stayed at the furthest & closest & both were fine. You just walk up the slope behind the resort centre, then cross the bridge & walk on the over side of the water to the Disney quest side. If you don't cross the bridge, carrying on walking to the boat. Also, It's a great pool for the kids, with a water play area, jacuzzi, bar. It's also first stop for the bus.

Another vote for the Grandstand area. Close to the main building and the quiet pool was great, kids loved it.

Here are some photos of the refurbished rooms. Apparently they've started with Congress Park and the upgrades are due to be completed in "Spring 2013", but I can't find any information on the remaining order. Grandstand is our preferred area so I'm hoping that will be have been completed before our November trip.

Until you posed this question I hadn't ever given it any thought, but although it's definitely got that homogenised Disney feel, I suppose you're right in imagining it isn't Disneyfied from the perspective of a child. From what I've seen of the soft-furnishings upgrade, I don't think that's going to make a huge difference.

when SSR first opened congress park was the first part opened( we even stayed in them a few days prior to the official opening). So it makes sence that these rooms are given the make over first as there the oldest ones on the property
Have always stayed in congress park when we have stayed and love the walk to DTD.
As for disney themeing surprisingly have always found the brash style of the values more disney than any moderates or deluxes. But its a different kind of disney and you and your kids will love it

I agree I only find that values have a real disneyfied theme!

There of course a few hidden mickeys in the room and around the resort x

Thanks for all the replies, I think the best area for us will be the one Congress park as i want to be able to walk to DTD and have the DTD view (not one of a golf course cant stand GOLF nor can hubby)
The boys would also love to see it all lit up at night and the balloon! where as the even if we are closer to DQ for the boys i personally would like to be closer to the other end :)
I know the boys will love the pools as ive shown them god knows how many pics and they seem really excited about going next yr(they have no clue its this yr) I think im just over worrying as I know they love POP and so did we :rotfl2:

thanks again :)

When we stayed there 2 years ago we stayed in Congress Park. Had a great view of DTD from our balcony and walked to DTD a few times. Would definitely request there again
