No but I’ve ridden Amtrak from Fullerton to Santa Barbara (CA), trains are pretty safe. Lots of seats. Conductor or ticket taker comes by once to scan tickets.
Seating is 2 + 2, and I'm pretty sure they are still allocating 2 seats per passenger, so she won't have to worry about a seatmate. Personally, I'd feel much safer on Amtrak than on some bus lines.
There's a Track My Train map on the Amtrak website that shows near-real-time train location and updated ETA, so you can be at the station when the train comes in. Looks like Train 97 has mostly been arriving early the past month, but trains can also run hours late.
BTW, face coverings must worn at all times on train, except when eating. Failure can result in being put off at the next station. Don't mess with the conductor.
Yes! Fear of flying. My young daughter and I trave with Amtrack 3 to 4 times a year. I am a nervous traveler and I feel very safe. We bring a pillow, blanket, lysol wipes, box of wine for mom!! Snack bar is available.
