Anybody renting a car in Feb. 2010? What's your best rate?

We're planning to arrive the day after Pres. Day (Feb. 16th) and although I know it's early to be checking rates, I did it anyway. Alamo is asking over $1300 for a 2 week rental on a compact, and it doesn't get any better by picking up the car 2 days later (we actually don't need it right away)

So...thought I'd start a thread so we could help each other out. :goodvibes

We "lucked" out and are renting a minivan from Feb 4th through the 22nd (2 weeks and 4 days) for $811.22 with Alamo.

Of course that's us renting it from Michigan as we will be driving south and we also booked it back in June. Since then the prices have gone up quite a bit.

I did end up using the codes I got from Visa, since that's the cc we will be using. Visa Discounts

I made my reservation with Alamo back in July. Picking up at MCO and dropping off at Swan/Dolphin. Feb 27-Mar 3, Intermediate SUV for $210.34.
I used the Walmart code 428448. Does not show a discount but does show the free additional driver. Prices have only gone up since I made the reservation.

Thank you Maine-iac for posting that code. I just updated my reservation and it's the same price, but now we got the free add'l driver! WOOHOO!

I've never used that code before -- I always used the Walmart code 430710 (discount and free additional driver).

I used that code in the past but since there had been issues with it I decided not to use it. I got the 428448 code from mousesavers.

We are going from 2/10 to 2/17. I used the Walmart code and got a special rate last week on a CUV - Dodge Journey or similar of $299 for the week. We don't really need a 6 passenger vehicle, but the rates for mid-size and premium sedans were twice that rate.

We are going in March/April and I haven't been able to find any codes - they all expire 12/09. When do the 2010 codes come out? I have a rental for $700 now and that's an Economy!!! It will cost more than the airfare for all three of us if I can't find a decent code. We are staying at Kidani and I am not going to use their buses.

With Alamo, you can put in a corporate ID code when you reserve it, and add a coupon code later -- in fact, you could add both after you make your original reservation. New coupon codes come out as the old ones expire, so you can count on getting most of the same ones year round.

I'm shooting myself now for not putting a reservation in a year before we needed it (I usually do, to sort of establish a fall-back position) -- the rates seemed too high at the time (double what we paid for our rental in 2009) but they have tripled since then.

I plugged in my dates again. Using 428448/430710 is $42 cheaper than using no code (mid size SUV). Maybe I did get a discount using the code on my original reservation. I guess I was expecting to see the discount printed on the reservation confirmation form.

I still keep checking to see if a better rate comes up.

We reserved a mini van for 2/13-2/20 for $453.22 (inlcuding taxes). Enterprise has a office at 6140 Hoffner Ave in Orlando, about 3 miles from the airport. Through mearstransportation.com it's about a $10.00 cab ride so my husband will take a cab to Enterprise and we'll wait at the airport for him to pick us up the airport with the rental. I reserved/booked through the entertainment books website using a 5% off standard weekly rate coupon

I was coming up with $900-1000 at the airport for all rental places on minivans. I have time so I'll continue searching but I reserved at that rate for now since it's the lowest I found. If you use this Enterprise be sure to double check the hours with when you are arriving. I know they are closed on Sunday and I think close fairly early on Sat.

We have an intermediate car reserved through Enterprise for 230. Our dates are Feb 19-28. No codes or coupons.

I'm going to jump in here, too... we are planning a cruise in Feb and need a one-way to the cruise and then two or three days after the cruise...

We are going Feb 2-11. Dh is military so we were able to get a military rate through Alamo for $253 for those 9 days. This is for an intermediate sized car. Seemed like a pretty good deal to me - but I will continue to shop around.

We have an intermediate rental through alamo for 02/25-03/04 for 285.70 with all taxes and fees. I used the walmart code but havent found a coupon good for that time period yet. Im hoping to get another $20 off that price with a coupon. I reserved this about a month ago. When I checked today using the same codes it was about $100 more.

We are renting a minivan through Dollar at MCO, using Orlando Magic Card code from Mousesavers from Jan 29-Feb 7 for $500. I am hoping something better comes along, kind of like one of Kermit's old songs. You think you have a great rate until all the mandatory add ins.

Also keep an eye on hotwire. Right now a minivan for your dates is $463.00 total including all taxes and fees.

For us, we've always gotten a great rate through Alama but that is usually closer to our travel dates. But we've also been able to make an early reservation at much better rates than they have now, which is why I'm ready to look at other companies to make that first reservation.

We need to have an additional driver, my DH, so having that free will make a big difference in the total cost.

I will give it a try. I am definitely not sold on that rate! Thanks!
