Hi Guys

My daughter passed her driving test a few weeks ago and for her 18th birthday her dad and gran bought her a little second hand Peuqeot 106, now its a lovely little car, and is a Y reg, however as soon as she has been driving it for at least 10 mins or more, a red light comes on with what looks like a temp gauge and the fan kicks in.

Now it was'nt particulary cheap,(cost just over £2,500) and did not come with a book:confused3 What is worrying me is that I have looked on the web and can not really find much info out about it. We have taken it back to the dealer they bought it from and they say they cant find anything wrong with it, but Im concerned as the fan stays on for ages after the car has been turned off. Im just wondering for anyone in the know about cars if this sounds right?

Im just in the process of fixing her up with a break down company just in case as she has to drive it over 20 miles a day back and forth to college, and I would hate it to break down while she was on her own.

She loves the car but even a chap walking down the street today stopped and asked her if it was ok as the fan was making a dreadful noise.

Any ideas??? We have checked the water and oil and they both seem to be fine.

I drove one of these for nearly four years and the fan one came on after I was driving for well over an hour. You maybe should get it checked by an independent garage to see if they can find anything wrong with it. The people you buy things off aren't always the first to admit something is at fault;)
Hope you get something sorted as I loved my wee 106. Sorry I can't say anything more technical.

I would say the fan is kicking in because its getting over hot, if i remember correctly the 106 doesnt always have a temp gauge.
Check the water level and temp gauge if it does have one, (make sure it moves from the bottom.)
Get a mechanic to have a look.

Edit..
Seen you have checked the water, but make sure the water is getting warm and there are no blockages or pump failures.
(if the water doesnt get warm it is not circulating round the engine.)

I LOVED MY 106 BUT SOLD IT BECAUSE IT WAS TOO SLOW, THIS IS PROBABLY A GOOD THING THOUGH!!!:confused3

Thanks for the replys all:goodvibes

I think we are going to take it to an Independant garage next week and have it checked over. I managed to get a look at a book today and it does appear to be something to do with the water pump as you mentioned giantstu:)
