Banana Seat, reverse pedal braking, 'Ape Hanger' handle bars, I loved my Sting Ray. I rode everywhere on that bike. Mine looked exactly like the one in this picture, except it was gold. Man oh man, what a great bike that was!

Did anyone else here have a Sting Ray?

My best bike ever! I got mine for my 7th birthday. Purple bike with purple seat and the long sparkly purple "pom" things that attached to the handlebars.

You brought back some sweet memories today!

Yep I had one. Then after that got a another StingRay that had 5 speeds and the shifter was like a car stick shift mounted on the bar just in front of the seat......

Oh how I wanted one when I was a kid. I used to take the 20" wheel off my brother's bicycle and put it on the front wheel of my 26" generic bike.

What I really wanted, though, was something called a 20-16 Screamer (from Sears, I think). It had a 20" rear wheel and 16" front wheel that had a drum brake.

Here's a photo of the 1969 Sears Screamer that I found online:

Not only did I have the purple girls version, the Slik Chik, I still have it and my DD loves to ride it ! It is THE bike in the neighborhood. All the kids love theApe Hanger on the back so they can be pulled on their roller blades. The tires are still the original ones and the kids like that too. DD even takes our dog for a ride in the basket in front just as I did 35? years ago.
My brother had the orange one....
AND MY FAMILY CALLS ME A PACK RAT! Looks like it was worth it for this item.:p

Yep, with fringe streamers, and a basket with plastic flowers on it. And I even used to clip baseball cards onto the spokes so it would sound like a motorcycle.

If you can I bet you wish you still had one.

Mickey88....are you kidding me!?!?!?!?!?!:earseek:
Holy cow....not that my old bike is in mint condition, but bet I could get enough $ to put toward our next WDW vacation...except I think my DD would KILL ME! Mine does not have the hand brakes however. Wow...I am shocked!

Forgive my ignorance...but could you elaborate? My bike has the regular handlebars, just like the Lemon Peeler, only no hand brake...it is the reverse pedal brake. Just curious.

My bike was sissy bar free. My nextdoor neighbor's bike had one though. I admit I was a tad envious.

This bike has a sissy bar. Its the extended metal arch behind the seat (the licence plate is attached to the sissy bar). It was mostly for show, though they could serve as a backrest

Didn't have one, but I remember them all over the neighborhood when I was a kid. I'd just like to blast back to a 1970's summer for one day - it was simply the best time.:D
