Anybody have an eBya seller take their money but never ship item?

DH and I are major eBay buyers...we've never had a probelm until recently. The guy cashed our check but never sent the item. We looked at his feedback (too late, of course) and realized that this guy is notorious for this. In my mind, he has committed a crime every time he has done this. I have given him a 10 day warning, then I am going to contact local and federal authorities. Has anyone ever tried to prosecute someone over an eBay sale?

Yes. We waited too long to deal with it and lost out. I kept trying to get in touch etc., because I didn't want to adversely affect someone's reputation. We didn't even think about prosecuting! Good luck!

We had this happen once - some He-Man DVD's that DH had to have. We too waited too long to do anything about it and the guy's feedback was terrible! I would have checked but DH rarely uses Ebay and so he didn't think to.

I have. Call his local police department and file charges against him.

Once for some beanies and the woman never answered me etc. In the meantime I went back to school and life happened.....forgot about it. Until last summer when a package arrived with an apology note saying she had moved in the middle of this transaction and had just recently been cleaning and found the unmailed box! I gave them to my daughter and wished I could have left some nice feedback or something but unfortunately I had no info from the buyer and have absolutely no recollection of who I bought from it was so long ago!

I've only had this happen once. Fortunately, the item that didn't arrive was only a $5 book.

Since it was only $5, I didn't insure it, and he claimed that he did send it.

Happened twice to me. BOth times they claimed item was sent. I didn't insure in either case as the amount was low..... It was their word against mine... In one case I contacted EBAY and the seller was suspended (I don't know if it was because of my contact or not).
It is too bad. I always ask for insurance and or delivery confirmation now.

I assume that you mailed it to him thru the USPS..you can in this case also file postal fraud with them against him...might want to notify him that you will also be filing a claim with them and see if that gets him to move..good luck.
.fortunately..the only time that ever happened to me..was a $25 Land Before Time video..guy claimed he mailed it..sent me a delivery confirmation #...when tracked it showed it was delivered to the same state it was shipped from..CA..and I live in MD!..I had filed a paypal/square trade claim..and they were able to recover my funds..I noticed not long ago that this same seller was now suspended..so ALWAYS check feedback before bidding..at least it gives you SOME idea if the seller is mostly legit!

Yep, I bought a leather Disney "Milennium" jacket for $500 from a guy who absconded with my money and never sent the jacket. He kept emailing and saying he would send it etc. By the time I realized he had disappeared, it was too late for a claim. I RARELY deal with Ebay now.

I always wonder why people buy over and over again from some people and I know realize no one checks feedback.

We are so proud of our ebay rating.. over 2000+ postive feedbacks and not a negative in sight!

I almost didnt have someone send me something that I bought, it took weeks and weeks... I was guilty of checking his feedback and thinking Oh its such a small thing, he wont stiff me even though he was notorius for sending things out 6-8 weeks late. Now I never buy from someone who has repeated negs or neutrals for the same thing!

I agree, read the feedback and only bid on Paypal items. Never, ever send a check or money order.

This guy had good feedback until recently. The last 5 or 6 transctions he hasn't shipped, and now he is no longer a registered seller. The latest feed back (not from us) was left on Monday from someone who said he was going to prosecute.

One would think that the guy got sick or something, but he has managed to cash the checks.
