Anybody fly R/C helicopters?

My son is 12 and wants an RC helicopter. He showed me some he saw on-line, but they are 100's of dollars and much bigger than he could safely handle. We bought him one at Target by Airhogs, but then we saw these really neat ones in the mall! They were so cool - the guys running the kiosk were flying them all over the place and made them sound simple to use. Then they told us how much they cost! I wonder if they will run a sale before Christmas? I looked on line and found some that looked similar for less money, but he BBB says that xheli.com has had many complaints.

If you have an RC helicopter - what brand is it, where did you get it and it is easy to fly? Thanks!

I don't know much about these things. I bought one at Target today for my almost 6 year old for Xmas. I am sure his older brother will help out. For his age I am not willing to pay more than that.

For you though I thought I'd pass this on. Woot.com has a RC Heli today. It's not Air Hog and I'm not familiar with the name but in the discussion section on woot there are several links to regular prices, reviews, etc. HTH!

No matter what kind of RC helicopter and what price, they are difficult to fly for anyone.

It takes more than just moving the levers on the controller and watch it fly. With the outdoor ones, the wind will catch it and toss it to the ground. Even the little air hogs, the kid will soar it straight up into the ceiling and it will come crashing down. The air hogs is pretty crash worthy though and will take a beating (I have 2 and I'm 38 yrs old ) It is fairly easy to break rotor blades on these thing though.

As for the outdoor ones, the reason you have to be careful is with wind, one tends to overcontrol the chopper and those counterrotating blades will strike each other and break or crash the chopper to the ground. These such as the BladeCX that was listed above are not as robust as the little airhogs foam choppers.

Just giving some warning so the kid isn't disappointed 5 minutes after opening his Christmas gift when it doesn't work any more.

I bought one from amazon for $27..not sure if it's still available, let me look around. It was originally over $100, I figured my 11 year old would like it. It's a Christmas gift so still unopened. It's rated 4.5 out of 5 stars so hopefully it's good!

$32 now but still a good deal I hope!

yes, RC ones might be a little to... chaotic ;D but with the little ones for inddors they can break easy so take care of them but are a blast GL

DH has one of the cheaper ones and it is hard to control. It also needs to stay away from long hair
