Anybody ever joined a "singles" social club?

I am thinking of trying one out in the near future. DS16 has a job and isn't around anymore and has definitely not wanted to do things with his mom for ages.

There is a club that meets 2 cities away at the legion. I figure it can't hurt but I don't want to do the drive.

I wouldn't be going to meet a guy, only to have fun again with other people.

My BFF is recently divorced and decided to give this a try. She asked for my help researching places, and one conclusion that we came to is that she might be better off looking for groups who share one of her interests, rather than a "singles" club. For example, we looked for groups that were interested in Latin dance, Latin cooking, and a club for Latin professionals. So it seems less like she's 'on the prowl', less likely to meet creeps, and if she does meet someone, they'll already have things in common.

This is how I met my DH, we met on a cruise board.

My older sister went - with no intentions of meeting a guy.. She was divorced from her first DH - who was very abusive..

She met her second DH there - an absolute sweetheart! The nicest man you could ever want to meet.. They married after a year or so - had 12 great years together before he died suddenly from a pulmonary embolism - 11 months before my DH passed away..

My poor sister still hasn't accepted it.. She never even expected to marry again - and then to have it ripped away from her like that..

She had some great, great times there before she met J - with all the girls - and they did all sorts of fun things.. I say give it a try! What have you got to lose?
