DD is taking Irish Step Dance, and her teacher mentioned she's trying to put together a proposal and take the group to DisneyWorld... I was curious, is it like the sporting events where they are pretty much offsite? Or is it more of a part of a parade???

DD is so excited she cant stand it!! Now why does a teacher get the kids going and not give any details??? :earseek:

I never danced there myself, but my competition dance group did things there a few years after I finished dancing. The competitions they did were offsite in the convention center. They did do a few showcases in the parks though, not as part of any parade but on the stage in Tomorrowland at MK. I've seen other groups (including Irish step dancers) dance there before.

No advice or info to share but just wanted to say "Hi" from another Irish Dance mom! We are also from the Midwest. How old is your daughter?

I have danced in the parade several times....Easter, etc....my (private)dance school has done this for years....

now my high school dance and cheer teams - we competed at Sea World and DisneyLAND and they were held offsite in convention centers....

Our clogging team will be performing at WDW in November. We will be participating in a parade. We have been asked to send in a tape of our dances and then it will be decided if we can perform them. Later that week we will be attending the CLOG convention and competition offsite.

The teacher may be referring to Magic Music Days. Lots of dance studios and high school bands, show choirs, etc. do this. DD went several times when she was younger and had a blast. They stayed on site with park tickets and performed on the stage in Tomorrowland. This is a low-key no pressure affair with lots of time for fun in the parks. DD has also participated in competitions/conventions in Orlando where the majority of the activities took place off property or at WWOS but the group does a public performance at WDW as well. Magic Music Days is scheduled as a package through Disney and the teacher will have to send in an audition tape for approval. Competition/convention performances are handled through the competition organization. At a competition/convention you spend most of your day in practice and at workshops and probably won't have a lot of park time. On a Magic Music Days event the focus is more Disney-centric with lots of time for playing in the parks. It's geared more to enjoying the experience. The MMD staff are great and the Disney performance facilities (esp. the Pantages Theater at DL) are wonderful.

Hope this helps!

Jennifer

My daughter is a part of her dance school's performing dance company. The school participates in Magic Music days each year. They have been doing this for several years, but had to be chosen via audition tapes. We just came back from a trip last month and it was great. The kids participated in two workshops run by disney cast members. They performed twice, once in Downtown Disney and once in Tomorrowland. They also participated in a special Magic Music Days breakfast. As the previous poster said, the kids havea lot of free time in the parks for fun. It is so exciting to see your child perform on stage in such a happpy place. I hope it works out that your child's group can go!

Wow!! This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for!! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences!! I find it truly fascinating!! I did find an entrance into the website for her dance studio - members - and it mentioned going to Ireland in 2006... DD is still a wee beginer, so she may not be 'passionate' enough to stick with it (and practice too!) and learn the 3 dances required!!

I guess you could say I just love "knowing"! Thanks again!!

:cheer2:
