my experience (breakfast in 2003) was similar to what Kevin described.
we had to wait 20 minutes at 8 in the morning to get seated.
the 'rushed' atmosphere was kind of thick. service was average, at best, and cleanliness was a factor, too. food quality - average, nothing special.
and i never got the feeling of 'dining in the castle', since the windows were mostly stained glass, or am i mistaken?
i will say the character interaction was quite good back then. my daughter and wife loved it.
soon after, they increased price, added mandatory photos, etc, and my daughter or wife didn't mention going back. we preferred the view and the aura of Crystal Palace. i guess we're just simple.
