I am reading Dr Oz's book, "You on a Diet" and it seems to make alot of sense. I can see if you only would eat the foods he recommends, then you would not have to be on a "diet" anymore. I am a sweet freak and after reading about how sugar causes so much inflammation in your system, I don't even want any now. Just wondered if anyone here has had success following his suggestions?

DH is trying to lose weight so I may pick up this book. I just don't think I could live without sugar though. I think I'd have to go to rehab for my addiction!

My DH and I did the You on a Diet. We really noticed a big difference. It was hard to stay on it during the summer when we were traveling and camping alot (sharing meal prep with others). We fell from it. Some of the recipies in his book were good - I still make the cold soup (Gazpacho? - I can't spell it).

but honestly it really makes you rethink what you are putting in your body. I know I am addicted to sugar (seriously!). It is all I really want to eat. Give me a hunk of cake and a glass of milk and I don't need real food. I think about it all the time which I understand is a sign on addiction. Hopefully, this plan will help me cut the cravings. Before this book, I have been trying to do better, using Splenda and low sugar products, but now I am afraid all these artificial sweeteners are as bad as eating the real thing.

I have the book, I know the nutritional effects already however it still doesn't help the addiction to sugar.

I have been buying club soda and drinking that instead of reg. soda when I need my fix.

As far as the sweets, you have to treat like a drug/alcohol addiction and not have it there tempting you in the house.

I have quit before and it takes a good yr for it to get out of your system.

You will find that you actually feel sick after eating it after you have been off of it.

It is crazy.:sad2:

Thanks...I keep hoping it will get better. They say it takes about 28 days to form a habit, so maybe if I can go a month without a huge chunk of chocolate cake, I will be OK! I know you cannot deprive yourself of things you want or it will never work. I just want to be able to have it every now & then and be Ok with that.

If you look at the sugar content of a product, how much is too much? 18 grams, 10 grams?

It seems that sugar is in everything, how can you cut it out?

Yes, DH and I have been following his diet this is our second year. DH went from 209 to 179 and I went from 133 to 117. We get our 10,000 steps in each day. During the holidays (we had the worst holidays ever in 27 years together in 2009) so we treated ourselves to a lot of homemade desserts. it was actually after Christmas through New Years Day. I made lemon merigne pie, cin. buns, flourless chocolate cake you name it we ate it. We ate away our sorrows together. We also gained weight me 6lbs, he 10lbs. Not a good feeling but it was good at the time and I don't think we will crave sugar anytime soon!

We love Dr. OZ. I thought I was a healthy cook before but since I started to watch his show and before that on Oprah he has taught us A LOT!

I'm a big fan of Dr. Oz and I've been considering trying his "you on a diet" plan for some time now, maybe the DIS has inspired me yet again :goodvibes

Well, I think the book is worth reading, even if you don't need to lose weight. It is an eye opener on how the digestive system works and what certain foods can and can't do for you. I am still on it and the only thing I have had that I would consider an indulgence was a tiny piece of 72% dark chocolate. I am doing a 30 min workout tape as soon as I get up every morning and eating things daily that I never have in the past, such as spinach, carrots, walnuts, oats, etc. I feel great and plan on keeping it up!
