Anybody been to Portobello? DH and I are going to DW for four nights in a few weeks, and we wanted to try at least one new restuarant this time (I feel like I've been to every single restaurant! :)) Anyway, I thought going to DTD one evening may be nice, and Portobello seemed to have some decent food and good atmosphere. Any reviews? Or other suggestions? I don't hear/see people talk about it often...wondering if there is a reason for that :confused3 Here are the other places we are going during our trip...

Tutto Italia-lunch
Jiko
Artist Point
O'Hana-breakfast
Narcoossee's
Chefs de France-lunch
Boma-breakfast
Yak & Yeti

Thanks!!

We haven't been in quite a long time. We have eaten there twice in the past and did like it, but since they had changed ownership, we haven't been back. I have read some negative reviews in the past about how it used to be really good but then went way down hill. I have checked the newer menu and it just doesn't seem that inviting to us. However, if you see that the menu is something that you and your DH would like to try, then by all means go for it.

We used to be huge Portobello people. Huge. We eat one good meal somewhere and we just keep coming back. I remember it being pretty good, and smelling delicious inside, something I always looked forward to. Lately, though, we found we like Via Napoli a little more and Portobello, though we're considering trying it again. It's the only place I've eaten in DTD.

I do remember they did this delicious roasted garlic (like a whole head of garlic roasted) that was just plain amazing and we still make it at home.

Now that I think about it, I think the new management was when we stopped going... around the time of a renovation, I want to say.

Thank you for the replies! We also considered trying Via Napoli, but since we are already going to Tutto, I guess I felt like I needed to switch up the location a bit. I don't know, still not sure. Portobello is the only DTD restaurant (on the DDP) that we haven't tried yet.

Is the atmospehere as nice as it looks in pictures? I definitely love great food, but the atmosphere is almost just as important to me :goodvibes

I remember it being nice inside, it's in a nice, slightly quieter part of DTD right by the boat with Fulton's just before Pleasure Island with I think an outdoor patio overlooking the water. It's certainly not like Tutto Italia or Via Napoli in aesthetic/theme terms, but still nice and actually much quieter I think than VN with those high ceilings. Oh, and I don't recall it being on the Dining Plan unless things have changed?

If you wanted Italian and a change of venue there's also Il Mulino in the Swan or Dolphin hotel, which isn't on the dining plan but good nonetheless.

Another that hasn't been for a few years, but enjoyed it when we went. We've had good meals there - really like the fresh roasted garlic to spread on the bread.

We just don't find ourselves at DTD around dinner time.

Went there last year for lunch and had a very good meal. Decent menu and atmosphere. I would certainly go back if in the area.

Why no discussion? As PP mentioned not being on the DP has alot to do with it plus its somewhat out of the way. You kind of need to be looking for it to find it IMO.

Haven't been to Portobello in the past 2 years, but before that it was a must-do meal each time I was in Orlando for business. The crowd level was MUCH lower than the other restaurants in downtown disney, the service was fantastic (not sure if this was because I brought large groups of 10+), the atmosphere was relaxed and refined, and the food was great.

I'm not sure when the change of management occured, as PPs mentioned. If it was within the past 2 years I don't know how helpful this review is going to be for you. I can only hope things haven't changed that much, as Portobello has been on my top 5 list for the past few years.

SO glad I asked this question...because I didn't realize that it wasn't on the DDP! When searching for my reservations, I clicked the box saying something like "list only restaurants on DDP"...but I guess that includes the higher-level DDP's like platinum. :confused3 DANG! Looks like I'll be making a change. Thanks for the responses everyone!
