Refurbishment started on one side of the elevators around November of last year. I saw that in Feb Disney filed a permit for electrical work and interior repairs that has an expiration date of Jan 2023. It's unknown when it will be finished as I think they're still working on the one side and haven't swapped over to the other one yet.
We just left DHS and MK. A cast member told us to expect TOT to be only running one line at least thru summer. Wait times were insane but we were able to get a LL for it late in the day. Otherwise we found Genie+ more of pain than it was worth.
They are replacing the ride controls. There are controls for both shafts so once this side is done the other side will shutdown. In short its going to be a while.

We are going to early entry TOT in Mid-August. So I'm hoping the wait won't be crazy. It's my favorite ride and I have to be on it at least once.
Most of genie+ will be spent in Star Wars land.
Just wondering if anyone has heard any news. Are they still working on the first side? If so, that would mean that it takes more than six months per side. Which would mean that they won't finish until some time in 2023! That is a really long time for an attraction to be running at half capacity.
Even if they've already moved on to the other side, I guess there's still no hope that work will be completed before my trip at the beginning of August. Sigh.
Echo was down last week when I was there. There was some work last year on Echo as well but it was reopened within a short time. This refurb started a few months ago and a CM told me they they’ll likely run both sides for a short time when Echo is finished. Then they’ll shut down Foxtrot for the refurb.
About a month ago a CM told me they would likely run both for a period of time (I think he said a few weeks). Foxtrot will likely shut down after that. Or it could start earlier - who knows.
Here is my expert opinion of when the other side will close (JK-I am in no way an expert ):
July park hours were recently expanded through July 30. That tells me they are expecting big summer crowds through July. Maybe it is just a coincidence, but it seems a possibility that the short window having two sides open to ease HS was planned. Also, I arrive on July 30. Sooo, I am thinking the other side will close July 29.
I arrive July 30 as well. Say it isn't so! On the other hand, Disney moved the secondary ILL$ rides to G+ for the summer in order to handle the expected larger crowds. That change lasts until August 8. So maybe Disney is expecting the summer rush to last one more week, and the other side doesn't close until then?
