We're leaving in 10 days for our annual Christmas trip to the World. Over the past few months I've read many different threads about the new max age of 9 for kids meals. We have a just turned 10. I'm interested in anyone who has recent experience with kids 10/11. We understand completely that we'll have to pay the adult price at pre-plated and buffets. But I still have questions. One significant note is no dining plan for us since we're DVC. We just use the DDE.

So ... have 10/11 year olds been able to order from the kids menu?
If so, were you charged more? Was the portion then bigger?

What about ordering kids desserts?

Our ten year old has Asperger's and is a good eater but I just like to know ahead of time where things stand if possible. Surprises are not a good thing with kids like our daughter and I need to prepare her. We've already talked with her about maybe ordering an appetizer or splitting with her dad or I. I don't have a problem with her eating adult food - she prefers it. But the portions are simply too big in most cases for her little body. Thanks ...

Well my info is about 6 months old but it was just after the change. My ds(11) had no problem ordering off the children's menu(and we always said he is 11) Even at the buffets he was charged children's prices when they saw what he ate- (except Chef Mickey's-they charged him adult) We also used DDE and I really think it is hit or miss with the kids menu. It depends on your server I guess. We had no problems but that was before they all got the change under their belts.

We were in the "world" in May. My dds were 14. They are small for their age, but they definately look older than 9. They eat like birds. We asked at several places if they could eat off the children's menu. We were never turned down! I think it is totally up to the server.

One more thing. A couple of times we did split meals. My husband is the only one in the family who can ever finish a Disney meal!

Last Thanksgiving week: The only place we had a problem with our 11yo getting a kids menu was the Sci-Fi.

We were there at the end of September and my oldest daughter turned 10 during our trip. We were never given any hassle about her ordering off of the kids' menu. Even my 13 year old son would occasionally order off of the kids' menu without any upcharges.

Hope this helps!

Amy
