Any way to make flying into Sanford less of an expensive hassle?

We are looking at flights for this summer and the standard carriers' rates just aren't attractive (MSP).

We can fly direct from FAR to Sanford for a pretty reasonable rate, BUT the savings is quickly eaten up by the hassle of flying into that airport. Did it once before and did the expense of renting a car (not worth it for this trip). Any "reasonable" ways to get from Sanford to Disney property. Doesn't seem like there are shuttles that go there? Please advise.

Thanks

Disney provides free service (DME) from MCO to WDW resorts. Mears provides shared ride service from MCO to other area resorts.

There aren't enough passengers to justify a shared bus shuttle service at Sanford.

There are many car services that will supply transportation from Sanford to the WDW area. It's about twice the distance and the fares are about double. Reasonable. Fair Absolutely no hassle.

You can rent a car for one day/one way. That's probably the cheapest way to go. Price it out. Probably $50-$75 each way. I guess there is some hassle.

People flying into Sanford have to make sure they're saving enough in airfare to offset the higher cost for transfers.

Flying into Orlando Sanford is only a good deal for those who are renting a car anyway. Shuttles and taxis are very expensive due to the distance.

To answer the title question, "Find other things to do that require a rental car." This permits you to, in tax terminology, allocate part of the cost of the rental car to things other than your Disney activities.

Come to think of it, the limos from Sanford work the same way as the limos from Orlando. Just cost more given the distance. Rental cars work the same way too, and with unlimited mileage all you pay more for is the gas.

Don't use Sanford Transportation or similar name, they (plural) have given some guests a hard time.

A warning. There a couple of bad car services that claim to offer service from Sanford. Low rates. No show.

The going R/T rate from Sanford to WDW is around $190 (+tip). Anything much lower is suspect.

We got terrific rates flying DirectAir out of Worcester Mass in to Sanford...about $160pp, r/t, for April vacation time...Some special promotion thingie. Figured it was still cheaper than flying Jetblue, paying to park at Logan. Yes, we have to rent a car, but we would have been renting a car anyway since we're doing US/IoA, a cruise, then WDW and then over to Tampa to visit ds.
When my dh and fly down to WDW in Oct, we will again fly DirectAir...friends/family promo...got $159 r/t pp. We will again rent a car (normally wouldn't have this time around), but put against the difference in airfare if we flew JB, or even SW, in addition to parking costs, it still makes sense for us to fly into Sanford. Of course, the airport in Worcester charges about 1/4 of the Logan rate for parking.

You need to figure out all the costs involved before making a choice. A car service will run you close to $200 from Sanford to WDW. Of course, that's about what parking at Logan costs us for a week!!

Sanford is a wonderful airport. It is so small you are out of there in no time. Everything about it is easier than MCO. I don't consider it a hassle at all. If you rent a car for the trip down and back you will find the drive direct and simple.
