Any veterinarings out there? Cat question

I have 4 cats. 2 of my 4 definetly have worms of some kind found in there stool about half an inch or shorter. Went and got a liquid wormer with piperazine. Will this cure for roundworm and/or tapeworm? I belive its tapeworm (my dog had about 3 months ago and looks the same)
2nd is one of my cats vomited it up so should she take another dose or wait the 10 days? She held it in about half an hour. When my dog had it they told me over the counter stuff works as well which is why I went this route first but don't know what to do about the vomiting which only happened once and its past midnight to call anyone.

My vet says Tapeworms look like 'rice'...my cat had tapeworm and was throwing up also.I'm not a vet but I highly advise you to take a sample of your kitties poo to your local vet and they will give you a pill that will take care of the problem for up to 3 months.Don't wait..it can make you kitty sick and very unhappy.
It costs around $5 for the stool to be looked at and another $5 for the pill.Definitely worth it.
I don't know if over the counter medications work.I've never used them.

OTC worm medicine will not work on tapeworm. Definitely agree with taking a stool sample to the vet. They should give you medicinet to treat them all because when one has them, they all usually do, unfortunately.

It cost me this as well at my vet when my dog had them which is why I tried OTC since my vet told me that works as well and they didn't even check his stool when I brought it.

My cats are all doing fine but still don't know if I should regive to cat that threw it up. Vet has not called back yet. so lookingfor vets here

Oh wow.That seems kind of steep to me.We have a vet around the corner.She's somewhat new.I bring my six cats to her and she charges $6 to check their stool and the pill for the tapeworms is also $5 or $6.
I can understand why you would hesitate to bring it to a vet if it costs that much! I would check around to the other vets in the area and see if you can get a cheaper price.
Whew.At those prices I wouldn't be able to bring my pets either!!

That definitely sounds like a tapeworm. Piperazine doesn't kill anything but roundworms. Droncit (praziquantel) is the best medication for tapes. We usually don't even charge for a fecal as most tapeworms are diagnosed by seeing the worm segments rather than finding them on a fecal floatation. Around here, a fecal runs around $10 to $15 and the Droncit is about $8 to $16 for a cat, depending on it's size. The good news is, tapeworms are not contagious from cat to cat or cat to person. Btw, check you cats for fleas, as fleas can carry tapeworms. Cats also get them from eating little rodents.

Thats the one thing that boggels my mind. As far as i know they have no fleas. I check all the time now that I have a dog and we never itch and we don't have mice or rats and they don't go out.

Some cats don't scratch even if they have fleas. Get yourself a 'flea' comb or any other fine tooth comb and comb the kitties. Concentrate on their lower back area, right in front of their tails. If you find a black pepper looking 'dandruff' on the kitties, you have fleas. The pepper looking stuff is flea dirt or flea droppings that are left on the pet after the flea eats. If the cats are clean, they must have found some little rodent to share. My brother's totally indoor cat catches mice in the basement, almost weekly.
