Any Venice experts? Advice needed, please!

I want to get a private water taxi from the airport (Marco Polo) to St Marks Square. Our flight arrives at 20:20.

Should I pre-book the water taxi from the UK or just do it when we arrive? If I do it on arrival at the airport, will there be a problem if the flight is delayed and we arrive late at night? Is it easy to get a firm cost at the time of booking?

I've been to Venice before with DH (and a loooong time ago with school!), but this trip will be with DD and DM who have not been before. I want the arrival to be as exciting as possible for them, but without too much hassle for me!

try needahotel.com for transfer only - they,ve done several of my clients, usually around £60 if I remember rightly but that could have been a special rate. It would always be cheaper to do it there but the trouble would be getting one if everyone decides they want one! They will definately wait if your flight is delayed, its no different to hiring a private car.

holidaytaxis.co.uk are another one, but I haven't used them for Venice

Thanks for that - just the info I needed Thomson want £79, so I'll check out the others you mention first. I think I'd prefer to pre-book for peace of mind.

just to say Hilary that I've encountered a few problems with holidaytaxis but needahotel have always been good, I suppose though when you're booking to use them hundreds of times a year the odd blip should be expected.
