As new DVC members, we had originally planned our first vacation for November 2013...and had planned to use the AP rates at a value hotel if we decided to take a last minute short (4-5 night) spur of the moment trip in October. Well, sure enough, things worked out so we can go and we were blessed to get a 2 br AKV for all nights but Sat Oct. 12. When I called WDW reservations, unlike any time in our 25 yr history, there was no availability at AP or even AAA rates - only rack rates at AS Sports ($149). Then we thought, "why not try for a 1 night anywhere on DVC property at preferably a studio but any category under a 3BR. I checked this morning and nothing is available. I am not angry with that fact as I am the one trying at last minute to get something that people plan on for 7-11 months but as a newbie, I welcome any help from you seasoned owners as to tricks of the trade to snag a room at last minute! THanks!! Amy

Check the website every day and cross your fingers. There isn't a lot else you can do.

You can try to call Ms. It might be an urban legend, but it looks like MS can get rooms back from CRO or breakage inventory when the travel date approaches So they might get you a room even if it is not available online.
It's worth the call.

That isn't happening in October - there won't be any breakage inventory to pull back.

Call Member services. We were able to book 2 days at Beach Club for today and tomorrow about 2-3 weeks ago. I know it was pure luck. We had a 1BR for today and studio for tomorrow. I called member services about 5 days ago to see if there were any 1BR available for the second day so we wouldn't have to move and there wasn't. But, I called 2 days later and one was available. So...2 days at Beach Club in a 1BR booked short notice during Food and Wine Festival. Maybe I should play the Lotto LOL! One thing I did do was look for availability both on the member site and via the main Disney site for cash rooms too. I suspect my second day was from their cash inventory because it was available on the main site but not on the DVC site. Good luck!

Keep checking the website. Due to a work conflict (they keep changing the dates of a conference), I have an AP reservation for a studio at BWV for Nov 10 to 15. I have been stalking the website and some rooms have come up but not for more than 2 days in the middle of the week. I've seen various rooms pop up for a night or two, even "hard to get" - a BWV standard studio, an AKV value studio, a BLT standard studio. So they can come up.

Maybe not but things open up. This past Wednesday I cancelled three nights this week at BWV. Then on Saturday I cancelled Thursday and Friday at SSR and added Sunday to my Saturday reservation.

I am in a one bedroom at SSR and am checking for a studio. I have seen Sunday at lots of places, but not Saturday, but I keep playing around. Tomorrow I will probably start a daily call just in case.

You are not going to believe this, I just went to check the site and got Tuesday thru Thursday nights at BWV, garden view studio! So now I have AP rate Sunday, Monday, DVC Tues to Thurs nights! Yea! Save $$$. Maybe the other nights will come through, I need to change my waitlist!
