We are thinking of trying it for our trip in December but I don't really recall seeing any reviews for it (of course, I wasn't really looking before now :p). Any thoughts/comments/reviews would be appreciated.

I cannot wait to eat here again - one week from monday!!! I am a red meat and nothing thrills me more than being able to see the cuts of meat through the window. The steaks are to die for - very good quality. Be sure to make a PS though as the wait can be rather longer without one during busier times. Even with a PS you might end up waiting a little longer here than other restaurants. People seemed to linger a bit more here. We ended up staying til closing but we waited an hour for our table b/c bad weather forced a wedding reception inside which took up a lot of space. I'm sure that situation is not that common. We almost gave up on it b/c my brother (16 at the time) was falling asleep - and my mom and I thought he was too old to be falling asleep at dinner lol. I'm so glad we stayed b/c the food is great, from the appetizers to the steak to the dessert. Two thumbs up.

I thought the steaks (filet mignon) were a little drier than I would have liked. I much preferred the steaks we had at Le Cellier and Brown Derby. The atmosphere was nice and service was exceptional.

If you are looking for steak, the best is at Shula's. Our last trip to YSH was marginal at best. This was probably two years ago. It was not as good as previous visits. I wish I could put my finger on what the problem was. I do know that it has gotten expensive and Shula's done correctly is no more expensive then YSH.

YSH used to be one of the beat restaurants on WDW property. But it slipped BIG TIME a few years back. Even though it's far from our favorite we usually end up there once a year, and true to form were there this past January. It was a little better than previous visits, but still lacking in terms of food and service.

Better steaks and better service can be found in several places, including Jiko, Le Cellier, and Shula's.

Will I eat at YSH again? I'm sure I will, but it's not on the short list and I'm not eagerly anticipating it.

We love the Yatchsman! We have eaten there every trip since it opened and we would not think of skipping it. The steaks are wonderful and the service is the best of any restaurant on property.

Have eaten here twice. Once I had a great Filet. The second time I had a bourbon infused steak and I should know better than to order any steak that has had anything done to it other than cooking it. :) It was not bad but not as good as the filet. The other items were all good and the service once time was good and the second time excellent. I have heard Shula's is great and will try that next time.

We really like Yachtsman Steakhouse and have eaten there quite often over the years. We have not noticed any decline in the food or service and always enjoy our meals. In our experiences which are as recent as May, we find YS steaks just as good as Shulas, Jiko, Concourse Steakhouse and Brown Derby (all places we also like very much) but better than Le Cellier's steaks and not as good as FF's seared NY strip. I absolutely love the Seared NY strip at FF, it is the best steak I have ever eaten and it continues to be consistently delicous after many repeat performances.

:D The YSH gets a thumb up from both my DH and me. We have found the steaks to be excellent and the service wonderful. It is always on our be sure to have dinner there list.

We just ate there last Tuesday evening. DH and I really enjoyed our steaks and the girls their mickey pasta!!

The service was great and very attentive. WE have eaten their in the past and will again in the future.

The Yachtsman is inconsistent, awesoem sometimes, and not so great other times.
I have dined there 6 times, and it is 50/50
when it is on, it is fantastic though! they have the most delicious bourbon strip steak, omg, to die for. if you go, ask for Oscar or Thomas as your waiter, adn you will be sure to get excellent service!

if you want more of a "sure thing" go to Shula's! awesome, and more romantic and quiet.

Laura :)

We ate there first time in June. DW (a dedicated carnivore) said it was one of the 3 best steaks she had ever eaten:D I had the rack of lamb which was BIG, and good, not outstanding. The dessert sampler was unforgettable. We will return, and no matter what, we'll have the dessert sampler:D

I'll add to the positive responses for YSH. We eat there at least once each trip, and have for the last 10 years. The food is very good and the service (although it sometimes doesn't quite get where we would like it to be) is also very good. I'll give you a little review from our last visit, which was last week.

DW & I had a late dinner there - late dinners are sometimes tricky, because you can catch the chef & wait staff tired and ready to go home. Not true here, and come to think of it we have eaten there late in the past & have found we get the same kind of attention & quality of food. I had the Yachtsman Filet (cooked medium rare) with the garlic smashed potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly - the knife was optional. It literally melted in my mouth. It was cooked perfectly, nice brown color on the outside & appropriately "caveman red" in the middle. I have found that alot of times with medium rare the outside gets charred beyond belief & the inside gets the appropriate amount of "doneness". I'm not sure why this is, but it seems to be a popular method of cooking med rare steaks. DW had the ceasar salad (very large) & the creamed spinich. I was able to con her out of a bite of the salad & it was very good - not drowning in dressing with nice crispy romaine lettuce. I don't "do" spinich so I can talk from having tried it - but DW is a "veggie expert" & she said it was delicious - I'll take her word for it. She shamed me into letting her taste the filet - which she also raved about. We shared a bottle of great California Cabernet. YSH has a nice variety & selection of wines. We aren't dessert people - but they all look very good. The highlight of the night was our server, Shamir. Unbelievable! Friendly and engaging without being intrusive- got us everything we wanted or needed before we even knew we wanted or needed it. As I said, the service has, on ocassion, not fully achieved the level that we expected (probably because on the prior visit, we had someone like Shamir who absolutely spoiled us) but it has never been distracting or so bad that we have said- "we will never go back there." This visit we were spoiled! We are looking forward to our visit in October!

Our kids love the place & are made to feel like they belong. Our first visit was when they were 4 & 5 (they are now 14 & 15). They love the place & look forward to our visits back.

You will love it!!

We've been to both Shula's and Yachtsman and before our most recent visit to Shula's in May, I would say Shula's. In May, my DW and I were seated at a table with only one chair and the hostess couldn't understand why I didn't sit right away until I told her to there was only one chair. We saw our server only once when he took our orders and then had his assistant for the rest of the nght. He was new and I didn't mind it but he was also covering alot of other tables while the main server catered to one table. The table was way too small for our steaks, side and drinks. My martini glass broke on the table as it got caught up in the "disarray" right in front of the server, he didn't ask if he could replace anything. He actually asked me if I wanted my steak wrapped up to take with me. For some reason, I had to point out the broken glass in my dish - he was right there when it broke. The creamed spinach was cold, steak was room temp, and the creamed spinach that was served as a side was also served on top of the oysters and served as oysters Rockefeller (worst I've ever had). From now on, we will be going to the Yachtsman.

If you decide to go, you may have good luck as we previously did. But if they seat you at a small table, ask to be moved. I've been to many of the best steakhouse in the country and I've never seen such a small table in a steakhouse. I think they're just trying to fit as many tables on the floor as possible.

Uncle Al (BTW, I have an "Uncle Al" ) - loved your review of Yachtsman, thanks...

randyl- I can't believe that waiter asked if you wanted your steak wrapped! Yeah, if you want the glass shards with it as a side dish! Do you think he was just nervous and inexperienced?

I think he was nervous. He was thrown a lot of responsibility because his "head" server didn't want to serve any table except one in the area. So the assistant was made to serve/assist everyone else. Our "head" server wasn't even thorough in his menu presentation to us or the table next to ours. Our service at Yachtsman, though, has been impeccable every time.

Thanks for all the responses!!! I think we will give it a shot. We have dined at Shula's and really enjoyed it... actually, DH is a member of the 48oz club :p

and the creamed spinach that was served as a side was also served on top of the oysters and served as oysters Rockefeller (worst I've ever had). From now on, we will be going to the Yachtsman.
Wow, I am surprised. I have had Shula's Oysters Rockefeller a few times and they have been the best I have ever eaten. Of course they never had creamed spinach dumped on top of them!
That is really wierd! I hope this not the new way they are serving them, because I really enjoy their oysters rockefeller. I like theirs better than YSH, but not if they are now using creamed spinach!
