Any thoughts about Boatwright's Dining Hall at Port Orleans?

Will be in Downtown Disney and are planning on taking the boat over to Port Orleans. We will be looking the resort over for a future trip (woo-hoo!). I was thinking it would be really easy to eat at Boatwright's while we're there and then catch the bus back to Magic Kingdom to see Spectro/Wishes.

Any advice, comments or other recommendations?

we love PO , to stay at and Boatwrights has good food, from breakfast to dinner, good size helpings. :thumbsup2

boatwrights was voted "best meal of our trip" unanimously by all four of us on our 11 night stay in '05... it also received the same distinction from bil/his family this past june... we love it there! ENJOY! :flower:

Sounds like a great plan. Our family loves the food at Boatwrights and we eat there at least once each trip.

I hope it's good for breakfast - we're staying at PO-R and have an ADR for breakfast there before the bus picks us up to take us on our cruise! :)

They may have changed the menu some since '05, but I had the BEST French Toast there!
Enjoy (we'll be there in Feb. 2008:cool1: )

We love Boatwrights for breakfast & dinner. I always have to order there sweet potato pancakes for my breakfast.

Dinner was excellent however I was told because we were on dining plan we were not allowed free refill for our non-alcohol drinks...:sad2: other then that the food was very good and we plan on returning next trip

I've only ordered breakfast from Boatwrights, but both times I had, my wife and I really enjoyed it. She still talks about the french toast. Our next trip we are going there for dinner!

I have never eaten at boatwrights but my inlaws said that it was really good!

We stayed at POR years ago and Boatwrights was never really busy. Now in the era of the DDP, would it be possible to get in without ADR's?

During our last trip, in March, we had a breakfast and a dinner at Boatrights. As a previous poster said, the french toast is wonderful - very similar to the Tonga Toast you get at the Poly. Dinner was good - nothing special, though. I can't even remember what I had!!

We liked their breakfast, but not the dinner. The breakfast was very good. But, when we went for dinner, the food was below average and the service was terrible....slow and the server was sort of crabby. Anyway, we did only go there that one time for dinner, so maybe it was just an off evening...But, we won't ever go back there for the dinner again!

disneykidz4 - my best advice is.... leave yourself a lot of time for exploring the resort before or after your mail! :goodvibes

Early evening is a good time, before sundown, to see the flowers and plantings, its a truly beautiful resort. Be sure to check out both the Mansions and the Alligator Bayou sides, so you have an idea which appeals to you most so you can request it when you make reservations to stay there.

As often as we've stayed there, I've only eaten once at Boatwright's, and that was for breakfast. It was yummy and we had a great server! We've always wanted to try dinner there, but we were either at the parks, or not hungry enough to want a sit-down dinner.

Its not a huge restaurant, has lots of wood, and has a partially-finished boat hanging from the ceiling for decor. Hope you enjoy your visit there!

Helping out 1st time visitors who are staying at POFQ.(plus maybe staying there in the future ourselves). I told them about Boatwright's being an option. Do they need ADRs for breakfast and dinner. Do they accept walk-ins? This will be next June 2008.

Unless you're going during a peak holiday time or the free dining plan, you should have luck getting same-day reservations or walking in with a bit of a wait. We were able to change our dinner reservation time on the same day with no problem.

Our experience there was mixed. I loved the pot roast, scalloped potatoes and collards. My DH found his jambalaya to be a bit dry and bland. The dining experience was nice, but we thought the food was overpriced.

That being said, POR has been our favorite resort so far. A boatride, stroll around the marina and dinner before Spectromagic sounds like a fun evening and a good way to get a feel of the resort for a future stay.

Definately make ADRs. When we were there this past June, we didn't have an ADR anywhere for our first night....was going to go to Boardwalk and go to ESPN but changed our minds. We thought we would try Boatwright's for dinner since we always go for breakfast. Unfortunately there was nothing available until 9:30pm, and with 2 young kids, we couldn't do that. So we were forced to eat at the foodcourt...not bad, but not Boatwrights.

If it's a busy time (ie, Free Dining) you will need an ADR for dinner at least.

The breakfasts there are a must-do in my family (french toast stuffed with strawberries and bananas) and no visit to the World is complete without a walk around my fave resort. Far and away the prettiest one.

Be sure to stick around for Piano Bob if he's playing after dinner. Lotsa fun!
