Any Teachers Work at Disney Seasonally?

I am having this crazy thought lately that I could maybe get a seasonal Disney job over the summer while school is out. Anyone know if this is possible? I was thinking we could "live" at Ft Wilderness for those weeks - I know that my kiddos would love it :)

I was hired for Seasonal this past June & met 2 teachers in Traditions that were hired as Seasonal. You must have 12 consecutive weeks of full availability for training and then work 150 hours per year (October - October) to stay active.

The only problem might be that they do want you to have a Florida address. One of the teachers lived in Tampa but her parents live in Orlando & she stayed with them. The other one was from Virginia but rented an apartment for the summer. (My daughter attends college in Orlando & I shared her apartment.)

I'm a school slp. I've thought of taking a short summer contract job working in a nursing home in Orlando. I hate the heat though, and Alaska in the summer is amazing. Still, making tons of extra money and being able to go to Disneyworld every night would be awesome.

Would the pay really make up for the extra cost of living at Ft. Wilderness plus all the other living expenses? I don't think it wouldreally make you that much money. Now if you're doing it for the disney perks like tickets and a discount and the money you make doesn't matter than I say go for it :)

That is what I was thinking! I think pay is around $10/hour. I think you would be much better off teaching summer school and springing for a vacation during an off week.

No, it's actually more like $7 an hour (minimum wage in Florida). I'm definitely not doing it for the money! :) Or really for the perks either since we've always been annual passholders, although it's nice of course. I did it because it's always been a dream of mine to be a CM and be in the magic, and I love it. However, I'm an empty-nester - I think it would be much harder with children to care for.

I'm a school slp and work seasonally at WDW. I have been doing it for 5 years believe it or not. The job is fun but can be very physically demanding especially standing on your feet for very long periods. The pay is minimum wage and being seasonal means you don't get raises. I keep doing it for a few reasons. I get joy out of spreading the magic to guests, I get great perks and I really enjoy the people I work with. It is more difficult now because they increased the hours required to 150 per year. It might not sound like a lot but it is and it can be very hard to get scheduled for those hours for lots of different reasons. If it sounds feasible to you then I say go for it. My husband has told me many times that I can absolutely not give up my job there because he likes our perks way to much, lol.
Good luck with your decision. :)

Drats! I thought the training was 6 weeks, not 12. We don't get a full 12 weeks off here. I knew it wouldn't be much $$, just thought it would be fun and I thought you got tickets working there (?) plus the money I made could offset the lodging expenses a bit. Oh well, it was an interesting idea. Also, of course, I don't have a Florida address. I didn't realize that was a requirement. Just a fun dream, I guess, to "live" at Disney for a couple of months.:goodvibes

I'm also a school slp and would love to do something like this. Do you have any specific information about going about it?

I don't. I emailed a few travel companies last spring, thinking I could work in the summer (anywhere, not necessarily Orlando). Turned out I couldn't because I'm doing my CFY this year (you need your CCCs). I STILL get calls from those companies every week asking if I'm looking for a job.

Most contracts are 13 weeks, which is slightly longer than my school has for summer. Some companies will work with that though. I know they tend to pay really well and include a tax free housing stipend. I have a coworker who started as a travel slp in our district for a one year contract. The company moved her up here, paid for her housing and bought all her snow gear including studded tires and a block heater for her car! She's on a regular school contract now (less money, more security) but really enjoyed doing travel jobs.

Does anyone know if, or where the employment site is for Disney. I would imagine an HR site, right?

The post above looks like spam (especially pulling up a thread from 6 weeks ago and a poster with 1 post) - I would not go to any of those websites. I reported it to the mods - they can decide.
