I presume there would be being near the sea and being a popular place for Japanese Tourists. But really looking for fresh sushi/seafood.

I am a kitchen hand at a high end venture in Brisbane.

As far as sushi goes, yes you'll find it almost everywhere on the island. I'm not a fan of sushi so I won't attempt to offer any suggestions along those lines.

Everywhere. Literally everywhere. From the 7/11 to the highest end restaurant. Poke bowls as well. Can't judge where the best is going to be, I've had awesome poke from a truck in the garage in aidea. All of it better than any I've had in the mainland .

The sushi was great!

I had great stuff at Morimoto Waikiki - photo of it is in my trip report. I also had great Poke at Kona Brewing Company. I believe there is also a Nobu on the island.

My favorite thing to do is the conveyor belt sushi. Years ago, Genki Sushi was our favorite spot - I literally ate there every couple weeks when we lived on Oahu!

Now my favorite is Sushi Bay in Kapolei. It's not fancy - mostly locals go. You go in and put your name on a list, then wait to be called for a seat at the counter. Don't go during busy dinner times - or if you do be prepared for a long wait. It's worth it, though! Super cheap and really tasty! We often also do carry out from them if we don't feel like sitting to eat. They do a lot of carry out business as well.

Sushi is very popular on Oahu. There are nicer Japanese restaurants in Honolulu, but for cheap and close I recommend Sushi Bay!

2 family members had sushi at Roy's near Aulani when we were there in June. Expensive, but they said very good!

If you venture up to Haleiwa, go to Banzai Sushi Bar. It's a little expensive, but some of the best, most fresh sushi I have ever had!

Nobu and Morimoto are sub par by Oahu standards, which is full of businessmen from Japan. The best spots are places like Imanas Tei, Sushi Izakaya Gaku, Yohei Sushi Restaurant, Yanagi Sushi, Mitch's Fish Market, Sushi Sasabune and Sushi ii.

Honolulu also has great Japanese beyond sushi with spots like Okonomiyaki Chibo, Ichiriki and Jinroku.

For a place not too far, or too expensive, I would recommend Kunio's (Japanese restaurant on the lower side of Waikele Premium Outlets) Great sushi, great Japanese food in general.

The sushi place at Ko Olina, Sushi YuZu, is pretty good and it beats driving in Honolulu/Waikiki, but there is great sushi in Honoluu at Sasabune, Sushi Izakaya Gaku and Mitch's.

Or, you can make your own ;-) When we lived there, we used to regularly go down to the neighborhood Foodland and pick up sushi grade ahi. They had all kinds of sushi grade fishes - and the non-chain markets (particularly the asian supermarkets) had even more choices.

Even the poke at foodland is good! Sashimi grade fish is easy to find in the islands. Seriously, go to foodland. You will see more kinds of pole than you ever dreamed existed.
