Hi, I am trying to figure ways to buy and charge extra phone batteries (maybe 2) in my room to take with me to switch out as needed each day in the parks.

I have seen the rapid portable chargers and feel I may not be good about plugging them in while I am out and about. So, I am wondering if there is a way to buy a regular Samsung Galaxy S3 battery only (without it being in a phone) and get a extra battery to charge and just pack with me as I go each day. Hope this makes sense!

Googling to try and figure this out is so confusing so THANK YOU in advance for any ideas or info!

I have a Galaxy S3 and I don't know why, but traversing Disney just drains the battery so fast compared to usual use at home. I don't know if there's thrashing looking for a signal, although I usually get a good 4G connection. I usually turn Wi-fi off...actually, this last trip I put it in airplane mode and used in-park wi-fi. I usually don't get many calls, so I wasn't too concerned about turning that radio off. Maybe heat has something to do with it too.

Anyway, I've considered doing the same as well. mom2rtk's advice was right on. You can get inexpensive S3 batteries and external chargers on eBay, Amazon and the like. As mom2rtk mentioned, it is important to bring a power strip with you. Hotels notoriously hide their outlets and the size of the external charger sometimes doesn't fit into those outlets in a lamp that hotels sometimes have. (The external charger fits directly into the power outlet, there's no cord...think of how you charged digital camera batteries)

The only drawback to the battery switch, and the reason I haven't done it, is that if you have a case on your phone, you'll have to take it off to switch the battery. Not so bad if you just have a rubber bumper or one-piece snap-on, but a bit of a pain if you have a multi-cover, like an OtterBox.

I have multiple portable chargers and they are great. They are really good, they have a lot of juice! In the past I have used spare batteries as well.

We have learned to go into settings and turn off a lot of unnecessary apps and features of the phone, that conserves battery life too.

I just bring a power strip and buy a couple extra cheapo chargers from China on Ebay.
Same here. My friend and I both had S3s on our trip last year, and we brought 3 extra batteries to swap between us. I just got cheap ones that came with a wall charger on ebay. I know the website NoMoreRack sells them, too.

I thought about looking for an extra battery for my S3 when I went to WDW last time, but ultimately decided to buy a portable battery charger (I got an Anker Astro Mini). I went this route because then I could charge any portable device on the go (e.g., other phones because we're a mixed Android/iPhone family). I thought about purchasing two...one to charge in the room while I was gone (just like you would for the spare battery) and the other to carry with me, but ultimately one charger was enough to recharge my S3 from almost empty to full. So I only needed one per day (but I did remember to charge it each night).

I would just get the external charger. We are fans of the Anker brand in my family (and at DH's work, where they travel with several devices). Isn't that easier than actually switching out a battery?
