Any suggestions for a cooler weather, pre-baby vacation this summer?

I hate the term babymoon ;)

We are finally expecting and would love to go on vacation this summer - due to work obligations, it would be late July/early August and I'll be ~26-28 weeks along.

We live at the beach so have no interest in a beachy destination. By July, we'll be craving a break from the FL heat and humidity and would LOVE a cooler destination.

We've thought about Nova Scotia, Seattle/Vancouver/Banff (the flight is killer from here, though), Scotland, Iceland, and Ireland but I am sure I'm missing a gem of a location that would be the perfect, relaxing trip for us. I will be too far along for a cruise :(

(Pre-pregnancy, we love trips that involve big cities, lots of walking/exploring, culture, food, etc. We don't do well lounging for long. Not sure how I'll feel then but I feel GREAT right now)

Any suggestions?

check with your doctor and the airlines regarding international travel at 28 weeks. I wouldn't leave the country, but that's me. Have fun where ever you choose and congratulations. :)

Already did - as long as things are still good, OB is great with it and airlines are fine until 36 weeks :) Would obviously purchase trip insurance regardless of stage of pregnancy just in case something changes!

Toronto. We had a great time there. Spent a week and could have easily stayed longer. We bought a City Pass and thought it was well worth it. One of the highlights was a ghost tour (not included on the City Pass).

I did a quick google before I posted and for international travel its 28 weeks - Maybe I read your post wrong and you're NOT going to Ireland. LOL Sorry. :)

We went to Boston in August when I was about 25 weeks pregnant with my second. It ended up being really hot, but it was a fun city to explore! We did the Freedom Trail. We were only there for 2 or 3 nights, though. I would have loved to venture farther north into Maine! Congrats on your pregnancy!

I'm glad you mentioned Toronto! Did you travel in the summer by chance? I know NYC can get brutal in the summer heat so wasn't sure if Toronto was miserable, too.

How about about a cruise to Canada from NY? Easy flight, and tons of cruises heading up the coast to Nova Scotia with stops along the way like Boston, Bar Harbor, etc.. They are usually affordable and can be as active or relaxed as you want.

Congratulations by the way!

Cruise lines don’t let you cruise past 24 weeks.

San Francisco would be a wonderful choice. It is expensive, but on par with other major cities for traveling. The "expensive" moniker comes from living there, which is quite spendy. But otherwise, it's ok. We used to live there. And, go back now for vacation from time to time. There are wonderful airbnb places now which can be reasonable, and eating in the neighborhoods (as opposed to the tourist areas) can be incredibly reasonable. We last stayed in the Avenues, and ate dim sum at a local place until we nearly burst. Mixed it with some beers. Left with numerous containers of "left overs" and still spent less than $80 for 4. I don't think that's "expensive" in the least. And, the weather will definitely be cool. The biggest tourist complaint is that it is too cold. LOL. Endless things to see and do.

Brazil. Australia. South Africa. It will be the middle of winter.

Alaska. Northern Canada.

Brazil has an outbreak of measles currently. I'm not sure whether Zika is still prevalent. Australia and South Africa would be too long for flights at 28 weeks pregnancy for my taste. Same with Alaska and northern Canada.

Toronto will be warm in August, not as warm as Boston or NYC, and there is air conditioning everywhere.

Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine would be good choices.

We really enjoyed our trip to Portland, ME a couple of years ago. It does get warm though. Maybe Denver, with a day (or two) trip into the mountains for a change of scenery?

Really at that time of year, anywhere in the continental US can be hot and humid. My brother lives in Seattle and was miserable late summer last year because of the heat. Some of it will be sheer luck.

Have a great time wherever you choose! And Congratulations!
