Looking for reliable site to research cabin rental for couple families. Know someone that went blindly and lost some money.
Would stay gatlinburg, pigeon forge, sevierville.
Thank you

We have used Wyndham Vacation Rentals and I plan on using them again for the same cabin.

We've rented cabins in the Gatlinburg area 3 times. Twice from Sunset Accommodations (great) and once from Aunt Bug's (horrible!!). The only reason we went with Aunt Bug's was Sunset's web site wasn't working when we were ready to book a cabin, so I "looked around" on Aunt Bug's and we decided to give them a try. Big mistake. Big, big!! I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. The next time we go we'll go back to Sunset.

We always rent from VRBO and have never been disappointed. This is where we stayed Oct.2014 and were very pleased. Off the parkway about a mile but no neighbors right underfoot around this cabin Very peaceful and relaxing. http://www.vrbo.com/217402# The owners were easy to work with too.

I noticed you said couple of families so this one probably wouldn't work as it is only 2bed/2 bath. VRBO has lots to choose from.

Very nice cabin!

We rented from VRBO too - ended up on the other side at Fontana Lake as it was cheaper there - $90 for a gorgeous 5 bedroom (Guess it is $120 these days). In the middle of nowhere - which suited us.

We used VRBO as well, and were very happy with our "cabin" (it was very extravagant). Read the reviews, look for the views, and outdoor space was important to us.

I will add, we won't be going back to the area. While the home was beautiful and the mountains were gorgeous, Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge needs some serious zoning laws enforced. So cheesy, so over run with "Ripley's Believe it or Not" type of junk. Here you have this fabulous landscape of glorious mountains, and at the bottom of them sits all of this cluttered visual pollution. It wasn't for us.

ETA-We did enjoy Cades Cove. It's basically a loop that you drive, but we were able to stop and have a picnic lunch and enjoy the breeze with a fantastic view "up".

Seriously, consider going to the other side. We stayed in Fontana Lake (Cherokee side). Gorgeous and all small towns with plenty of the great outdoors. I do find Pigeon Forge fun (in a tacky Vegas for kids type of way) but love the solitude, serenity, and outdoorsi-ness of the other side of the Smokies. Still blows my mind how cheap cabins are in the region.

When we were down there for several days we had an awesome luxury cabin in Pigeon Forge. The view was incredible and it was minutes away from DollyWood as well as Gatlinburg and all the other attractions down there. We used Timber Tops Luxury Cabins.

Thank you so much for that suggestion. I did love our cabin. I can't believe all of the amenities for the price, not to mention the multiple fireplaces and master baths. And, or course, the mountains were just gorgeous. But, the low-rent Vegas stuff I can do with out. I will remember your tip and go to the other side if we ever get back in the area again.

We've stayed at Elk Springs Resort 5 times. They're main cabin area is in the Arts & Crafts area in Gatlinburg. We love the location. We've always stayed in a different cabinet depending on our group size, whether we were bringing our dogs, etc. Cabins are VERY clean and if something does go wrong or you have any issues, they are very quick to respond.

Thank you for posting this! I had lost my link and couldn't find it again.

You are very welcome! We have stayed there several times and love to walk around the little neighborhood the cottages are in. Everyone is always so friendly and we have been very nicely invited to join our neighbors' cookouts a couple of times. My FIL bought our kids remote controlled cars the last time we were there and our neighbor's young son loved playing with them, too. My favorite is the Sunflower Cottage and I love to sit out on the porch swing at night.

Lots of great info here. Thank you everyone. Anxious to research.
Also another person I knew had a cabin and pigeon forge area and was able to see/hear the dollywood railroad from their accommodations. Please not this!! What do I need to avoid

WE will be renting a cabin for the first time in July. I went to VRBO as well. I will let you know how it goes. Cant' wait!
