Depends what you are used to, I guess. I was probably one of the trip advisor reviews that you read - we were not thrilled with this hotel, but for one night you will be fine. I would never spend my vacation in this hotel - dingy carpet, peelng wallpaper, all kinds of flaking paint and mildew in the bathrooms. I'm sure that we didn't get recently renovated rooms - if they even have any, but I thought it really needed to be "refreshed" (nice way of putting it). We will not stay there again.
The pool area did look OK, but we didn't use it - weren't there long enough. The property is well used and it shows. I was quite concerned about the cleanliness of the place - it just felt dirty to me - could have been the poor condition of the bathrooms. A very drunk guy outside of our window at 5 am talking very loudly on his cell also did not leave me with the best impression. I know that could happen anywhere, but it still made me very uncomfortable, not to mention woke me up.
They do not guarantee connecting rooms (of course, not many hotels do) and they did not provide them to us even after recalling the front desk when we got to the rooms and realized they weren't connecting. (They did not tell us they would not be connecting even after we mentioned it at check-in) They claimed they had none in the whole hotel. Did not seem concerned that they couldn't meet our request - and it was the only request we made. We did stay on points which could have been a factor in the rooms we got. We are gold members which isn't hard to achieve, but at the Swan, they made us feel like royalty.
If we had scheduled our vacation at this hotel, we would have been packing up and finding a different hotel after the first night - possibly even before the first night. The hotel that I stay in for vacation is a very important part of the trip for me. If you only think of the hotel as a place to sleep and store your clothes, you would probably not have a problem with the Safari.
