Just wondering what my chances are of getting this on sale sometime before Christmas? I'm looking for the Star Wars Lego Death Star set(but DO NOT want to pay $400). Is Amazon my best bet (to save taxes)?

Last I checked Amazon charges taxes...Maybe add it to your cart on Amazon and watch the price changes? I do that with certain items. Sometimes they go way down, which is when you should purchase :)

Yeah good luck with that. It's been on my boys list for the past year and I don't see it happening. Unless I can get to the store on Black friday. The store does Mystery Savings- usually it's 10% but it goes up to 50% you don't know until you are paying- so you can't find out your discount until you've already committed to buying.

Just wanted to suggest that you check with your state. Even if you are not charged by an online site when placing your purchase, you may still be obligated to report and pay under what is called a use tax.

Good luck finding the toy, sounds expensive! :)

Whether or not Amazon.com charges the customer local/state sales tax depends-upon wether or not Amazon operates a physical facility (such as a distribution center) in your state.

In my case, Amazon does not have any depots in my state, so no sales tax is charged.

I stalked this item for two years on Lego.com, TRU, Amazon, eBay, and until recently the cheapest I ever saw it was when Lego did their 10% off sales (so, $360, plus tax and shipping.) Until recently, thankfully -

I bought it over the summer when TRU did their B1G1 50% off promotion. So, really, I bought two, and spent $600, then sold one on eBay for $400. So the one I'm keeping cost me $200 plus tax (and the eBay/Paypal fees on the one I sold.)

I bought it at 12:01 on the midnight the sale went into effect. I post on a Lego forum (brickset) and read that by 12:15 all the Death Stars were sold out. I don't know if they got more in that week.

This is the last year that it will be in production so I would not wait more than 2-3 more months if it's something you must, must, must have.

Good luck! It looks amazing! Trying to keep it hidden until December but the box is GIGANTIC!

LEGO will have double VIP points next month. That effectively gives you a 10% discount since you will get $40 in store credit for a future purchase.

If you have a Disneyland or Disney World annual pass, you get 10% off at the Downtown Disney LEGO stores.

This is the last season for this set and it will become difficult to find, probably by mid-November, so I wouldn't hold off on buying it.

There's a website called bricklink.com that may have it for less. I have purchased from that site and found it to be frighteningly comprehensive! I was also able to find a Star Wars lego set that isn't sold in the US. DS11 was thrilled!

Last year Barnes & Noble had a 30% coupon to use online. I was able to use it on the Lego set my son wanted. I'm not sure if they carry the set you want or if they'll do that coupon again, but you could keep an eye out for it.

I looked and they don't have it. We don't pay tax on Amazon it our state.

Ugh, I just ordered this from Lego.com and signed up for the VIP program. I wish I had read this thread before and waited for double points! Anyway, I ordered through my ebates account and will be getting 5% back...so 5% back PLUS double rewards is better than a flat $399.

BTW, not to get off topic but I can't help it. I'm in love with the VW Camper that was just released. I see they have a limit of 5 per buyer and even though it's in-stock, it's on sale for over $150 on ebay already. Go check out that camper, it's so cool, man.

I would love to find it cheaper. This has been on both DH and DS9's wish list for years.

Heck I'm an adult and that's on MY wishlist! :goodvibes But you're not going to find that set beyond a 10% off VIP thing I don't think. Those fancy collector's edition sets are really marketed at the adult Lego enthusiast even more than the kids, and they have the $$$ to spend on their hobby! I have not seen a price drop on that thing in the 4ish years I've been aware of its existence and if they're still making it, it must be selling enough, so I wouldn't expect it to happen.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it's just how it is with Legos.

Don't even talk to me about the $500 3 foot long Super Star Destroyer they just came out with... :sad1:

It was around $340 on amazon a month or two ago. The price drop was quick and then it went back up. I almost caved since I figured I would never see it that low again!

I wish I could just buy all those minifigs it comes with. Seriously, some of those are ridiculous...:worship:

Check a store which has it in stock and find out their security measures. Then break in during the middle of the night and steal one. Cheapest way to get one.

However, if you get caught......

rella's fan, I PMed you but I'm adding this here, too, in case anyone is still waiting for this to go on sale.

Go to Amazon.com right now and the LEGO Star Wars Death Star just went on sale for $359.99 (reg. $399.99) with free shipping! I don't think there's tax, either. Better hurry - I doubt it'll last!

I remembered this post (I buy LEGOs for my daughter) and thought I'd let you guys know! :)

It's already gone! LOL, I already ordered from Lego.com but was debating getting one for my nephew. I guess that decision was made for me.

Check your local museums, many of them carry legos in their stores and offer % off discounts to their members.

:thumbsup2 That sounds like something I would do (have done!)

My kids would love a death star and I have told them if they pool their money, they could get one to share/work on together, but so far, they have other sets they have chosen.

The lego site always has some sort of deal on Black Friday. It is never a huge discount but it is something. Good Luck I hope you find it cheaper. I bought it for my husband and son 2 years ago.
