how much effort is put into investigating a breaking and entering that has happened twice?

There was a witness to the second one so we're 99% sure of who it is, but not absolutely sure of his name or where he lives, but we do know the parents (of this adult) and gave the police their name, address and phone number.

Do you know if they will call them and pursue it? It took the officer over an hour to come and she won't be back in the officice until tomorrow, so I'm curious as to how much effort is put into these things in general.

Thanks for any experiences or info at all.

If you say you are 99% sure who did it THIS time, they will make contact with that person. Did they fingerprint the B&E site? Hopefully.

From experience with my DH, it could take days. If nobody was hurt in the process of the B&E, the officer will work on this in order of what is most pressing on his plate. A domestic violence investigation will take priority over YOUR B&E, even if it happens tomorrow. Sorry.

Good luck to you, and hopefully they can catch this person!

when our credit card number was stolen, they didn't do anything. I called a few times but gave up because I never got a return call or any kind of information. At least the credit card company took off all charges.

Our house was broken into by a kid down the road. The officer who handled that was great. My oldest rode the bus with him and had his buddies talking with him and his other buddy to gather information. That police officer followed everything and kept in touch with us.

Over the winter we had some kids vandalize our Christmas decorations and I saw them. I ended up in my pj's following tracks in the snow to find these kids. I eventually found them and got the license plate number and called the police. Officer was at my house within 10 minutes, gave him all information and told him what I had seen. I was missing one letter or number in the middle, snow had covered it and gave him a general direction of where they were headed. From that information he tracked them down and talked with them and the dad. Dad denied everything. He called me and told me what he was told. I thanked him for everything he did and told him I was pretty darn sure I had the right kids. These kids were driving a late model, loud (very loud) truck that was black. There aren't many around here. I explained to him that they might not be, but quite honestly there aren't many like that running around at that time of night being that loud with two kids in it. There were too many coincidences. Thanked him again and left it at that. The next day I'm cleaning the house and I hear the truck again and it's sticking around. I was almost on the phone with my husband, afraid they had come for retaliation. They actually bought another decoration and left it on my doorstep with an apology. I called the officer and let him know what had happened, told him he must have gotten the right guys. (Normally I wouldn't have bothered the police with something like this but our house has been targeted in the past. I am sick of it. I can handle TP'ing the trees and realtors signs in the yard but someone once smeared fecal matter on our front door. They have also taken to driving by and yelling stuff at my kids when they are in the drive way playing basketball. This past summer all three were walking a buddy halfway home and these same kids scared the bejeebies out of my youngest. I still haven't figured out who it is but when I do I will be calling parents & police. They also scared a young lady down the road from us who had just gotten off of work and was walking into her home. They kind of blocked her car in so she couldn't leave, it was odd because she was going in the house. She ignored them and hustled into her home, same kids, same car.)

It all comes down the police officer handling the case I think. I wish you luck. What about setting up one of those nanny stuffed bears that videotape everything to try and catch them in the act?

I hope things are different in your area, but around where I live, nothing would be done about it. We had a guy come up to our house and defecate in front of me while I was calling 911 for the police. When he dropped his pants I thought it might be a sex offender and I was SCARED. I got his license plate number, description, etc...The police laughed it off...seriously, they actually thought it was funny.

We have police friends so we were able to get the guy picked up. He told a bunch of lies about being sick to his stomach and the DA declined to press charges (for indecent exposure). I didn't want the guy sent to prison, but maybe a fine and apology?!

Your case is worse than mine, so maybe they will do something. If you have law enforcement friends, they can help you.

Both my sister and father are police officers. My sister is a detective. They will investigate but definitely follow up. Call the detective every day if you have to. As far as credit card fraud...they do something about that as well but you would be shocked how rampant that is. They can only go so far. As far as other "crimes", it depends on the crime but sometimes it actually costs more money to prosecute. I know it sounds awful but it is a sad truth. Good luck to the OP and I hope you get a quick resolution.

Oh my gosh! not worse by far, we weren't there, it's a weekend place on the lake, he only took a few bottles of liquor, one was a $5 bottle of Tequilla with a worm in it we brought back from a cruise about 20 years ago, probably sent him to the hospital. :upsidedow.

Besides breaking the window to get in, he's actually being kind of curteous. He shuts the cupboards and the fridge and the door behind him, and the first time, he cut himself pretty bad from the huge drops of blood we found outside, but inside, there was a whole bowl of blood in the sink, eeeewww, but not a paper towel or a drop anywhere. We tracked the blood to the inside of his parents house and that's how we were pretty sure it was him, then a neighbor who lives there year round saw him with his girlfriend at our door the 2nd time.

I'm extremely disappointed in the parents. I know that he's an adult, in his
late 20's, but they know it was him, but don't know that we know, so they haven't come clean. We were sure that we'd hear from them, and they'd get their son to or they'd offer to at least help fix the window. We've taken their grandsons who are close to the same age as our son, out to eat with us, fishing, tubing, they've spent the night, etc. so now I'm pretty sad, feel like selling the place.

If an investigator doesn't follow through, I hate that we'll have to call them ourselves. :headache:

Thanks so much everyone, and I'm sorry that happened to you Debbie. I'll let you all know what happens.

That's awesome. Maybe that straightened him out.

Thanks, dh is going down this weekend and we were contemplating puting up a deer camera outside, but I've heard if you don't catch them inside, it's worthless, so I'll check into a :cutie: bear cam.

In reference to the "maybe it straightened him out." Nope it didn't. He ended up stealing his friend's girlfriend's ipod and selling it. He also was busted at school selling his ADD meds. When we caught him, they did catch him but not with everything, the judge was kind of lenient and it wasn't his first offense which I still can't figure out. After the two other incidents (that we know of) he was put into Juvi. I am pretty sure he was gone for about a year. He is just now back in school, my son saw him on the bus two weeks ago for the first time.

I've looked into the outside security cameras. I think the fun thing will be getting something that you can watch on your pc or something that records motion. You said it's a lake house, which makes me think you're not there very much. Constantly recording would take a lot of space. This is the main reason we haven't done it, even though it's our primary residence. We ended up investing in lights. We have motion activated lights in some areas and photosensitive by all the doors. The lighting seems to have discouraged some of our problems.

I wish you luck.

(PS I think video as evidence of a commission of a crime, inside or out, should be able to be prosecuted. At the very least for breaking & entering, even if you can't prove that they stole specific things, a crime still did occur. I would think the gal with the sister & dad police officers could answer that.)

Boy what I wouldn't give to have an eyewitness to something like that.....At the very least he gets hauled downtown......:cool2:
