Any perk to buying direct through Disney in terms of booking first trip?

If you buy direct through DVC would they help you get your first reservation or are you in the same boat as everyone else from the gate?

I've been checking rental points and there is nothing available to rent at any monorail resorts. If I were to buy direct from disney at Poly is there anything they can or would do to to help get our first trip booked?

Yes, they sometimes can make that happen if you make it a condition of the purchase.

I'm also going to comment that is more related to your other thread about buying. You stated that you will not be studio stayers so I would not pay a super sized price for a resort that did not work for me just to get this one trip. With DVC you will have many many years of vacations. You are concerned about spending $$3500 for the May vacation and would prefer to put it towards DVC but buying direct will likely add more than $3500 to the overall cost. It really can't make a lot of sense to spend more to buy a resort that doesn't fit you in the long term just to use these particular funds towards the purchase.

I understand about having the desire to finally purchase but I highly suggest taking a step back and really looking at what you want out of DVC and where you really want your home resort. Buying PVB when you always want to stay in a 1BR is a bad idea IMO.

Beyond the initial cost of the PVB points versus buying resale, PVB is an older resort with already higher annual dues. The costs over the life of the contract will be higher, and won't even net you benefit in the 11-month home resort window.

A DVC contract is a long-term commitment. You need to consider it as one, rather than as a short-term gain.

Thank you! It may seem like we are making a rash decision but this is something we have been considering for years and just now feel timing is right. We went and stayed at bwv 2 years ago and spent $4000 on hotel and are about to do that again and we can't help but see it as $8000 that could have gone towards DVC. We def want the long term value of DVC which is why we are so strongly considering this! Thanks!

Thanks and I wouldn't buy at PVB because of this- but was wondering about asking DVC for other options to buy direct! Thanks!

DVC is selling Poly and Aulani direct. They have wait lists for a few other properties, but you wouldn't be top of those lists.

Just remember to work the numbers in direct vs resale. If the cost difference of direct is going to be more than the cost of your trip you'll be losing and because Disney has some pretty high points costs on their "sold out" resorts it's very likely that's what you'll find. Something to consider, and all this assumes that DVC does make sense for you in the long term and is something affordable, is to continue to watch for a resale that fits and to do some cost savings on the May trip such as stay at a value or even off site. If you did get a resale and found room availability you could then cancel what you had booked. Even though you have thought about it for awhile what most are cautioning against is letting this one trip push you in a direction that you wouldn't otherwise go.

Thanks and I appreciate your input! I do feel this has been pretty rushed and probably why it feels so overwhelming! I posted on another thread that we've decided to stick with our BWV reservation for May and plan to make an offer on a resale shortly after we get back so that it's all set up with plenty of time before our next trip. I already have questions about buying the resale but I may quiet down for now and focus on the fun stuff like dining reservations for our trip and worry about these details when we're back!

Thank you again!

Well, if you're already here and reading, might as well scroll through and through and through and find the umpteen threads with the gazillion questions/concerns about the resale process. Might save you having to make your own threads. :)

And here I was just hoping I'd click to buy and it would take care of itself lol!

You can use your next trip to visit the resorts that look positive online, meet with a guide, tour the resorts that have models. Do not buy direct no matter what during this visit, wait for the pixie dust to settle and make a discussion based on facts, not emotion.

On the other hand if you do get talked into buying direct why you're there you'll have 10 days in which you can cancel your purchase.

Thanks! We will have our one year old and 3 year old with us so I don't plan on doing the tour! We may possibly plan a meal at AKL so we can take a look and see how we like I since that may be where we purchase and it's the only resort I have never been to!

Excellent idea to visit AKV - even if you don't end up buying there. Jambo lobby and common areas are very impressive and you'll find lots of places to view the animals. I'm sure your little ones will like it. If you have time, be sure to visit Kidani lobby as well. It's also impressive (although a bit smaller). Have fun!

Unless one is looking to buy something that either needs to be bought directly or the price is close, it doesn't make sense to buy quickly to get that one trip. Better to just pay cash through Disney for something or put off a given trip.
